I think my kid needs some new ones. Kiddo plays almost exclusively with her plastic electronic activity table and her books. Anything else you can suggest in the 1 yr range?
We have an old kid piano too that DD loves. These are all bigger toys, but she loves her shopping cart, kitchen, and whale teeter totter. The teeter totter was intended for outside, but it's still in the living room. She uses that thing several times a day.
DS loved/loves stacking things. Some of his favorites were the really cheap stacking cups and also fisher price stacking bowls. He still plays with them at almost 3.
ETA: DS still plays with his FP laugh and learn house. It was my a hand me down and sees almost daily use.
Playmobil 123 makes great quality for the under 3 set. All of his Fisher Price Little People toys are missing some degree of paint from him putting them in his mouth. The Playmobil ones show no damage and he still plays with them at almost 4. Does she have any ride on toys? Other than that it was stacking type things and music (piano and drums - westmusic.com is great for quality inexpensive "real" instruments).
Some favorites here: a push toy she can walk behind, ball popper, play picnic basket (she likes putting things in and taking them out of the basket), little house activity set (has doorbell, light switch, bathtub faucet). We have peekabo books, touch and feel books, cloth books, scanimation books, books that talk/sing, have eyes or buttons, etc. Her favorite book is a Wheels on the Bus interactive book where she can turn the wheels and the wipers actually swish.
Of course she is also highly entertained by non-toys, like cell phones, keys, her comb, tissues, magazines, taking her clothes out of drawers, opening doors, playing with velcro, etc., etc.
She made out well on her birthday from family, and I usually check the kids section at Ross/TJMaxx/Kohls.

Toy shopping cart. We have this one from Melissa & Doug:
DD's favorite thing right now is when I give her a lidded tupperware container full of these:
She tries to get the lid off for awhile, then I help her and she plays with the container and the blocks. DS comes over and builds some towers, she knocks them over, and it's a grand ole time.
She also likes these Le Crueset measuring cups. They're silicone so they're fun to chew on. DS uses them as mixing bowls in his play kitchen.
DD1's favorite toy at that age was this Winnie the Pooh ride on car. Even before she could walk or sit on it she loved to play with the little characters on the front.
And another vote for that fisher price piano, she loved it and still plays with it at almost 3 years old.
We loved this. It's a bit pricey, but can be played with up to 3 years old. Check your local Once Upon a Child or other resale shop, I always see them in there.

My TJMaxx and Marshall's always have a good selection of Melissa & Doug toys - DH also liked the stacking boxes, basic wood/board puzzles, etc. He also loved the Busy Ball Popper and still plays with it when he finds it in the basement. Other huge hits at that age were his water table and a small ride-on toy that had a seat that opened up to put things in, for a while if I was missing a measuring cup or spatula I'd know where to find it.
Ditto the play kitchen. Open. Close. Open. Close. Open. Close.
. We have a play kitchen but it's wooden and I'm afraid she's going to pull it over on herself (she doesn't walk yet). Perhaps I should bolt it to the wall or something.
My son is 16 months, but at 12 months started playing with the Leapfrog Alphabet Train ride on. He loves it. Also, the Leapfrog Potsy, it might go good with her kitchen.
