Broad generalization

I should put a disclaimer on this and I hope you are kind. I dont wanna get flamed but I had a conversation with my mom ( this will prolly paint a super shallow pic of her ) she is not shallow just aloof very typical Jewish American Princess-ish

as many of you know I am not 100% great at putting thought down so bare with me. (is that the right bare)

Anyhow Mom asked me why GAY Men always seem to have so much more pride in themselves and look nicer and have nicer things .. Blah blah blah . My answer first was the glass ceiling and a 2 male household is much more significant that that of women. Then I did not have much more to add other than NOT TRUE.  She said that most Lesbian/Gay women she knows are more homely and bigger and seem to let themselves go.  When I was younger and came out of the closet I remember my dad asking if I was gay because I was "fat" .  I laugh now - because my dad is clueless in some regards but he is a MACHO HOT HEAD who looks very mafia-ish (all my friend thought he was in the mafia growing up ) he is Isrealie so typical Misogynistic mindset some what but yet would give you the shirt off his back in the snow.   Both my parents have barely a HS education English is my dads 2nd language and he barely made it out of HS.

Anyhow- i think about this conversation often I had with my mom.  I somewhat kind of agree with her not that Gay women dont care but it seems like there tends to be more women who are bigger and homely in comparison I will def include my BIGGER ass in this category  not the HOMELY-ness I'm too dorky for that and trying to have a sense of style has led me to have whatever I have but I did go to the grocery store like a frumpasaurus this Am.    Just something in my click perhaps? -  no actually most the women I know who are gay are all sporty hikers who are slim or slender.

Anyhow,  It also got me thinking and noticing (AGAIN BROAD GENERALIZATION) I seem to know and see and meet several Lesbians who also happen to be JEWISH.  I asked M if maybe I notice this more because I am jewish and she said no she also thought the same thing?   I dont know stats or number I have not researched but - again based on who I know or know of it seems that many of the Gay women i know or know of are Jewish.   It just strikes me -

I know that Judaism is a very accepting religion but i cant imagine that people specifically Gay people are lining up to convert .  I know Christianity and Muslim are the top leading religions primarily  but Judiaism is down there at the bottom of the list or at least below the knees or so i thought?

Ok so again its a broad generalization and something I am pondering and clearly should be doing something way better with my time ....

Oh Jay, you crack me up. The only Jewish lesbians I know are the ones on this board. I know a LOT of former Catholic lesbians, myself included. Perhaps it's a regional thing? As for your mom's comments, well it seems like a generalization. I think there are lots of rockin ladies on this board of all shapes and sizes and some who seem to be doing pretty darn well for themselves financially. Maybe our priorities are just different from some gay boys.

so true about the priorities of course after I typed this I realized there was so much I left off and out. Also women sadly are still very closeted I think more so than men. Most men dont seem to have MONOGAMOUS relationship either again just based on the Men I know and have met.

Lesbians as a group do have a higher BMI than straight women - statistically, lesbians are more likely to be overweight. There have been some studies on it, but I don't think that anyone has come up with an answer to the "Why" question.

As far as letting ourselves go - I don't think that is true. All of the lesbians I know are clean and concerned about their personal appearance, however they choose to express it.

My BFF's 12-year-old stepdaughter asks her questions like this all the time - "Why do some gay men talk like that?" "Why are all of the men on Project Runway gay?" She struggles to answer them - there aren't a lot of easy answers!

so crazy .. my dad also shruged at the end of this coming out and said, " well maybe you'll bring home a girl who knows more about cars than you do"  ( this was in response to a busted brake line or hose i had and used chewing gum to get me home!)

My mom just asked that I dont be so "dykey" and prefer I be a LIPSTICK LESBIAN - HA !
