So, for Father's Day, I'm going to be completing a project for H that he's been meaning to do for ages. We have a wall in our family room where we've been hanging photos from our trips together. Right now there are only 3 photos - two 8x10 vertical layout (though I may remove one of these) and one 4x6 horizontal layout (in a matted frame the size of which I can't remember).
I've put together 5 more photos from our unrepresented vacations that I want to order and frame and I'm debating on the size. So we'll have a total of 7-8 photos.
So now I'm debating the size of the photos & frames. I'm currently thinking of 1 4x6, 1 5x7, 1 8x10, 1 4x4. That would make a total of 2 4x6, 1 5x7, 2 8x10, 1 4x4. If that sounds good, there's one remaining photo that I'm unsure of the size I should get. I'm leaning towards a 5x7 or 8x10.
Bigger is better. A 4x4 or 4x6 can't be viewed from anywhere except standing right in front of them....they will be lost from across the room.
Point. Though, given the layout of the room, the furthest a person would be viewing the wall from is about 10-12 feet.
Hrm.
Source for mid to dark wood frames then? I was looking at PB, since the frames we currently have are from there. The largest square-opening frame they have is 4x4".
10-12 feet is still a long way out from a 4x6. I think you should do a mixture of 5x7s and 8x10s. I'm cheap and really like the selection and price at wal-mart. Also, the frames don't have to match exaclty. An eclectic mix is always nice.
I have to agree with the PP's. I am a photographer, and I never recommend that my clients get smaller than an 8x10 for a photo collage on a wall. You could do 5x7, but I definately wouldn't do 4x6.
Ok, that's cool. The only reason I was thinking another 4x6 is because of the one we currently have. I may swap it out for another one from that trip anyway cause it's not my favorite.
