Let me start by telling you I don't spend much time on my make up or buy it ever. I have used the same makeup for years... bare essentials for face, purple hues Mac shadows for eye make up and mascara with a tad of lip gloss. I was in the market for so some new foundation and read good reviews about Dior so yesterday had my makeup done... They had the national make up artist there and she did it.
I LOVED everything and $300 later I walked out with a bag of new makeup. The problem is I can't keep it all so have to determine what to keep and what to return and buy a cheaper brand of it.
what I got: liquid foundation- keeping no matter what setting powder that has three colors to include highlighting powder and bronzer blush- pink color lipstick eye shadow palette - going to return, didn't realize it was $80 foundation brush
So of the products above... What do you think I should return and buy a cheaper drugstore brand. Any recommendations would be great. Thank you so much!
Signed, Now obsessed with makeup... I looked so pretty! LOL
Mind you I'm not terribly familiar with Dior products, but I'd keep the powder and return the blush, lipstick, and foundation brush. I've heard good things about the ecotools brushes and just ordered a couple of amazon myself. I don't know that I can help with the cheaper blush and lipsticks because I tend to like Nars blushes and I prefer lipglosses more than lipsticks, but I'm sure others will have some good suggestions there.
I have a Dior foundation brush, and I hate it. It sheds like crazy! Return that and the eye shadow palette for sure.
I love Dior foundation and mascara. I can take or leave the rest of their products, though I haven't tried their setting power. I think would keep the foundation and the setting powder, and maybe either the blush or the lipstick if you really love the color of one of them. That would let you keep three products and return three products.
I would keep the liquid foundation and blush. I have found that my more expensive blushes have better color and last much longer than drugstore brands.
I am not sure about the setting powder and lipstick, because I don't use either.
I do think that my expensive eye shadows are better than drugstore brands, but I think you can find a palette you like for less than $80.
My foundation and powder brushes are cheapies (Eco Tools). I also think that Real Techniques is frequently recommended for cheap brushes that are good quality.

If it were me, I'd keep the foundation, blush and lipstick, as I've found that one I really like a color in one of those, I'm never happy with a substitute. I think eye stuff is the easiest to try and switch out with cheaper stuff, especially since i'm pretty rigid about tossing mascara after a few months. However, I say this as someone who doesn't use a tool to apply foundation, and would never use powder, so my return list would be easy!
I'd return the blush and lipstick unless you're head over heels in love with them. You might want to check out the dupe list at temptalia.com to see if either has a lower-priced duplicate if you really do like the shades.

Dior is $$$. You don't have to downgrade to drugstore, maybe just to $$.
Keep the liquid foundation and maybe the powder. Did you like the highlighting and bronzing, or do you just need setting powder? I'd probably keep the lipstick, because I think expensive lipstick is worth it.
Use the dupe list at temptalia to find similar shades to the products you bought. Dior blush is $42, Tarte Amazonian Clay is $26. I really love Clinique lipstick, they're $14.
That said, I'm predominantly a drugstore makeup gal. NYC Translucent loose powder is a great setting powder for $3. Rimmel blush in Santa Rosa is a great every day nude and Pink Rose is an everyday pink. Drugstore eyeshadow is almost universally terrible, so I'd go for something from Urban Decay or Stila.
Brushes and technique make a HUGE difference too. It'll take some practice to look as good as you did when the pro did your makeup. You can find lots of You Tube videos that help you figure out how to put the makeup on.

I have had the same ecotools brush for about 7 or 8 years..which reminds me I should probably go buy a new one. I got mine at Walgreens.
As for professional stuff, I would only recommend keeping the foundation and or concealor. I use Revlon Colorstay Photo Ready but for concealor I use Amazing Concealer found at Ulta. Other stuff I use is just drugstore quality; Covergirl LashBlast, NYX Blush (it's a dupe for Nars Orgasm...)
I have been wearing makeup for years and haven't noticed a huge difference except for price.
Keep the foundation, setting powder, and blush. My Dior healthy glow blush (is that what you got?) is one of my favorite things. I also use Dior bronzer daily.
I love a good foundation brush and didnt realize how much better I look with it until I used a good one- but I have Armani, not Dior. It's also $$ so not saying for you to get it, but maybe try ecotools instead.
I wouldn't get drugstore shadows, but you can get much cheaper stuff at Sephora.
Now I want to know more about this Dior blush....does it have good staying power? Does Sephora sell it or do I have to go through Nordies? my birthday is coming up and blush is my favorite
i've got pale skin BTW...like fair, porcelian in color.
I love it. I actually use it under another blush because I'm light-medium but it warms my skin. It lasts all day, it was still on when I left work at 7. But that also may be due to my awesome primer (hourglass mineral)
