Some cabinets of ours are always the same, like the dish cabinet, every is stacked and in place. But the dust would kill me.
I don't even like how my wine glasses get dusty INSIDE of my cabinet in the dining room, let along purposely leaving things out for the dust to collect on.
I really wanted to do open shelves and i could totally keep it organized, but the dust was a huge deterrent. It is SO dusty here, even if I put our everyday dishes out, we'd have to rinse before using them.

I do like the look and I think were going for it as a temporary kitchen remodel this summer. I'm not too worried about dust. I don't have many upper cabinets to start with, so it shouldn't be too hard to switch, right?
DH and I both love the look and are going to store mostly matching dishes, pottery serving dishes, mathcing glasses, and pots/pans on the open shelves and leave the messy kid's plastic, tupperware, and other mismatched stuff in the lower cabinets or ones above the fridge.
I love the way open shelving looks but ditto on the dust. I don't believe that stuff won't get dusty with regular use. If the inside of cabinets can get dusty and dirty through use I don't even want to think about what accumulates on open shelving. Blech.
If we ever did open shelving it would be for decorative items only that I wouldn't mind if it got a little dusty.
I was thinking the same thing when I looked at the link. I seriously do not want to have to think about dusting that often, and in truth, I don't need more visual clutter and things out of place bugging me.
DH and I were going through the kitchen cabinets this weekend, and we pulled stuff off the top shelf to give away. We had to clean of dust/grime before we could even put them in the donate box, and this was stuff that lived on the top shelf of a closed cupboard near the stove.
DH made a comment wondering how long it had been since we had used any of it, but he didn't know that it hadn't been that long since I had actually cleaned/rearranged that stuff. It just gets gross really quickly around here....I guess dust/kitchen use/damp marine layer is a bad combination.
I don't think most people can. My cabinets are actually fairly organized, but I don't want to look at it all the time. Pretty or not. I hate clutter and stuff out. I'm very easily visually distracted. And like pp said..the dust. Junk is dusty in my cabinets..I don't even want to think about it on open shelving...and it's stuff I use a lot. Also I have a lot of nice dish sets and serving pieces..but Pyrex which I have the most of..just isn't pretty no matter how you stage it.
I love it in pictures so much. In real life and in my house I think it would be stressful. We have a lot of dust here too, especially in the summer when the windows are open. Even if the dishes weren't dirty the shelves themselves would have to be cleared off and wiped often.
