in a kiddie pool. Would this bother you? I was fine with it, assuming she was right there to watch the kids, but then I read the form that she is required to give us from the state. It talks about e-coli, children drowning, etc. It was like googling worst case scenerios when you have a pain in your side. lol
What questions should I ask? (there are 8 kids ranging in age from 1-6, most being 3-4, DS is 1 and just started walking)
Our daycare sent that home and we didn't sign it. But the "kiddie pool" for him was a big pool that just didn't have a deep end. We just aren't comfortable with it since he is only 2.
For questions I would ask what the teacher to kid ratio would be while they are using the pool. Do all the kids go in the pool at the same time? I would be concerned about the littlest ones getting pulled on/under by the older ones. Do they wear flotation devices?
What is the ratio of adults to children while in the pool? Will they be wearing those inflatable arm things (can't remember the word- floaties?) or anything else?
How old are the children? I think my comfort level would depend on the age of the child/children. ETA: sorry, just saw ages. At age 1, I would be uncomfortable.
Our daycare does water play a fee days a week during the summer. I have never thought twice about it. The kids LOVE it and there are a bunch of teachers there at all times.
They have some sprinklers and little blow up pools.
I would prefer a water play area on a table That they put their arms into. Then nobody can fall in it and drown with their face in 2 inches of water, etc.
I would ask what happens if one child has to go to the bathroom. Or hurts themselves and needs to go in
I'm assuming the form is the same weather it's a public swimming pool or a 6" deep blow up kiddie pool.
Our daycare does splash day once a week in the summer and all the kids do it once they're out of the infant room (so 12mo+ and walking). The smallest ones tend to like the water table more, but some go sit in the pools (they set up about 6 of them). The teacher ratio remains the same as usual, and it has never worried me - they have plenty of floaters who can help take kids to the bathroom.
At an in-home daycare and just one person, I would be concerned with how she would handle bathroom trips and diaper changes.

I would have no problem with this.
At 1, I bet he isn't even in the pool. I bet she sets him up with some buckets of water, or has a seperate little pool with an inch of water in it. You would be crazy to let a one year old in a pool with 3-4 year olds, unless he/she was being held by an adult the whole time. I assume you DC lady isn't crazy, so I assume she isn't going to just throw him in the pool with the bigger kids.
Not sure I'd be ok with a pool. Sprinklers and a water table, yes, if the teacher/student ratio was good.
My kids are 8 and 5, and their summer camp goes to the pool once a week. I'm only ok sending my 5 yo because I know the instructors require the child either pass a strict swim test or that they wear a vest in the pool. The test is strict enough that even though DD #1 could pass it, last year she chose not to bother and just wore the vest! Odds are she'll do it again this year; she's lazy that way and that's OK with me!
