I consider myself to have a fairly strong pain tolerance. It stung a little when the dr pinched my cervix prior to the catheter insertion & the tech in the room asked if I'd had any kids because I was handling it all so well so far. Within seconds, the pain from the cath hit me & I jumped twice from the stabbing pain as the dr inserted it. Holy hell! I broke out in a sweat and stopped being able to be so chatty with the tech at that point, lol. The radiologist mentioned seeing the right side flow through easily, but did ask for more shots of the left side so I will be interested to see what the full results are.
I really wish I had remembered to take 800 mg of ibuprofin before the procedure but quite honestly, I don't know how much it would have helped during the painful part.
I'm not sure. I may be able to email my ob/gyn resident dr before I actually see her for the appointment to go over all of my results. She actually wanted to schedule me for next Monday but I have all day IT training next Monday and Tuesday, so it will probably have to wait until the following Monday...unless I can figure out which other residents have already done their RE rotation and schedule with one of them (which is probably no easy feat!).
At least it's over now. Hope you get good results!
You're not making me feel better about my HSG scheduled for Friday
I plan to take an 800mg Tylenol AND an 800mg ibuprofin. Any other advice?
Sorry not trying to make anyone more nervous, I promise! Deep breaths? Unfortunately, there is not much advise to give but luckily that part is brief & hopefully it leads to good results.
I know, I'm just kidding. I'm not expecting it to be a tea party. Any step towards answers and/or pregnancy is welcome any time, even if it sucks for a few minutes.
This is probably one of the most uncomfortable tests, and you have it done. Hoping for good results now!

You made me feel better about the way I reacted to mine. I expected some minor discomfort but it wasdownright painful to me. I took the 800mg before hand, and I don't think it helped even a little.
But, you're right, at least it was a fairly quick procedure!

I had mine today as well.
Take a pad with you - the one the hospital has is massive despite being named 'maxi thin'...
Also - breathe through the pain as much as possible. Mine felt like really really really bad cramps - even the pitocin contractions were nothing compared to this. Luckily it's usually over pretty quickly.
Glad it's over for you! Not the most pleasant test for sure - when do you get the results?
@starflower22 and jewel - good luck with your hsgs. Someone told me to really focus on breathing and try not to focus on what they are doing.
2 good things about it(think positive! haha) 1) It's over really quickly. 2) As soon as it's done, there is no more pain. I drove home with no issues etc.

I'm not even sure. Nothing is simple when dealing with the clinic since they are booked up far in advance, the call center can't add you in but the doctor can do it on their end, yadda yadda yadda. It might not be for a couple of weeks due to trying to coordinate my schedule with theirs, but I'm hoping the dr will give me some insight via email first. My situation is different since I work at an academic health center & am on the "cheapest" health insurance plan where I can only see our doctors.
Hope you get your results soon! (I'm skipping through this and not saying anything else supportive, because I'm trying to stay away from the HSG is painful stories, before I chicken out and end up having to get a laparoscopy instead. That'd just be stupid, so I'm trying to not freak myself out!

Awww, thx!
I felt the need to come back in to say that the more I think about it, the more I think the fact that my HSG was performed by a 2nd year ob/gyn resident could have had A LOT to do with the pain level. Most of you will be having it done by an RE with years of training, so I don't want to scare anyone needlessly.
Follow up to my story (mostly in the post about my lab results) - my follow up appt is 2/25 & I got refunded the $272 for my first visit when I called the billing dept today for an itemized bill since they said I shouldn't have been charged for the visit and had a credit on my account! I would obviously prefer to be seen before the 25th, but the clinic I need to be seen in is only on Mondays and of course I have mandatory training next week on Monday. I keep telling myself - this is one of the tradeoffs I have to deal with for the less expensive medical plan. It still stinks to wait so long too. Esp since I already found out some of my lab results thanks to another dr visit.
