We're getting a new furnace and after four quotes (between $3400-4800, ouch, not what I want to spend that much on with a baby on the way). After some research, and learning more about furnaces than I ever wanted to know I'm still trying to compare them all and make a decision. The brands we've been quoted include Coleman/York, Trane, Bryant/Carrier/Payne and Lennox.
If you've been through this process, can you share which brand, type, etc you chose and why?

We had a new heat pump installed (instead of a furnace) a couple of years ago, but my wife did all the research and handled it. I don't even know what brand we got, but if I think of it tonight I'll try and see.
Call a couple of reputable repair shops in your town and ask the guy what he would buy if he was buying something new. The repair guys know what to avoid because they spend all day fixing the bad ones. Also if you have a shop that sells used/rehabbed heaters, that can be a good place to ask too.
I'd never thought of doing this before my parents' refrigerator broke down, and the repair guy said "Oh, LG refrigerators are the worst - never buy one of these again."

Thanks for the responses! We made a decision (lowest price, longest warranty on parts and labor, upgraded air filter, new programmable thermostat). The best part is that we're having it installed this evening and are looking forward to having heat again tonight!
