LOVE peapod. I used to do it all the time. It costs $6.95 for delivery if you spend $100, or $9.95 for delivery if you spend $60. The minimum order is $60.
The biggest downside is that I hate when they are out of stuff. Sometimes they will substitute, sometimes not. You can specify about the kind of substitutes you want. Like when Fage yogurt is on sale, they will of course be sold out and then give me chobani. I hate chobani. I get annoyed when that happens.
It seems like a lot of people do this and I wonder if DH and I are just complete Luddites for still actually going to the grocery store(s). I think we'll always have to do some of the shopping ourselves because I like Asian veggies which a lot of the regular supermarkets don't have. But tell me what you like about delivery. How often do you have it delivered? Is there a minimum? A fee? Does it save you money? How's the quality of the produce they deliver? Any down sides?
I love having my groceries delivered. We don't have this sort of thing back in Ga and so I decided to try it out when I moved up here. I have a Shaw's near me, but I have found that Roche Bros has a better selection and their produce is good. I get mine delivered every two weeks, and it costs $9.95 for delivery. I am not sure if there is a minimum or not. I usually order around $80-$100 for two weeks of food. I cook a lot and eat most of my meals at home since I also work from home. They also will substitute if they are out of anything, but only if you indicate that it is ok to substitute that item. You can also pick which day and time you want your groceries delivered.
Take a look at the website and see if it's something you like. They have everything broken down like a grocery store and even have sales daily, so I usually go through that first, and then check on my regular ordered items. With my first order, they gave me a brochure with coupons that had free delivery and things like that. They also at the start of the year, gave out calendars with your order and it had a coupon for each month that was either free delivery or $5 off.
I heard really good things about Roche Bros and have no complaints myself. Check it out! I feel it has not only saved me time (I usually setup my order online in my downtime at work, or at night while watching tv) but money as well, as I compared it to the local stores here and they were usually cheaper or the same.
I can't get on board. Even though going to the store is a pain, I like to pick my own produce and always find things I didn't know I wanted. Plus, I eat almost exclusively organic and a lot of the products I like aren't available via Peapod. If Whole Foods offered something similar I'd probably give it a whirl.

Well, they kind of do. At least the one by me does. But you have to call them and give them your order over the phone. They will deliver it.I am not sure if they offer this service at all whole foods, or just the one by me in PVD.

I had no idea. That sounds annoying though. I can't always remember the specific brand or size, etc. It should just be online with photos.
Rikki and scm, I eat a lot of organic products and produce as well. I don't know about Peapod, but Roche Bros carries all if not most of the organic products I buy. I'm not as familiar with Roche, as we don't have them in the south, but I was told they are in line or just one small step down from WF. I like WF too, and have one close here in Brookline. I will still go if I need a speciality item, but as far as carrying a lot of organic, Roche has a lot (with pictures). I've never had an issue with their produce either. It was something I was a little scared about as well too when I first started.
Ok, I'm done with my novel! I cannot believe I know this much about grocery delivery. Ha!

I totally wing it while shopping. So it wouldn't work for me. I go in with a couple of recipes and then might buy stuff for more or something different based on produce available. I make last minute changes and get on epicurious.com often while there.
Sadly, sailbent, Roche Bros. is too far from me to deliver. I hear good things about them. On the flip side, we have just about every other major chain within a few minutes' drive--S&S, Shaw's, Hannaford, and soon a Market Basket. But I still prefer Russo's over all of them.
liveintheville, you'd be surprised how few toy's DH actually has! He always says that people assume given his profession that he has tons of gadgets and such, but in fact he's never even owned a smartphone!
n. Someone who has none of the technological devices that have become a part of our daily lives, such as television, microwave, gaming platform or home computer.
I'm going to Ohio for a visit with the Urban Amish relatives. Where's my Gameboy?
Well at least we have a TV and microwave All our gaming systems are old though--Wii and PS2. We're lucky we have a Blu-Ray player, and that's only because I asked for it as a gift.
Oh, but we do have a crap load of laptops/computers. At one point I think we had something like six different machines in the house and there's only two of us!
This I am familiar with! I've become very possessive of my laptop because if I don't watch it, he does crazy stuff to it. Like install Oracle and he leaves crazy SQL windows open constantly. I'm always afraid I'm going to accidentally type in the terminal window and kill everything. We still have an old apple G5 that he mirrored the damn hard drive on. FOR NO GOOD REASON OTHER THAN HE COULD.
I don't use a supermarket delivery service but we do Boston Organics for produce, which makes my grocery store visits much less frequent and very brief. I am torn about them; I love the idea but sometimes they send the same thing over and over again every week - I'll get beets 3 weeks in a row, for example. You can manually adjust your "no list" to prevent it but it is sometimes frustrating. You can also add organic dairy products and other local goods on to your order. I pay $29/week.

I was actually very excited today to find out Pea Pod is finally available in my area. I don't see using it often, but there are times things get down to bare bones and with the kids' and DH's schedule we just can't get there. I can see myself getting desperate and doing an order during nap time or something.

I can't even get pizza delivered where I live, so I'm pretty sure grocery delivery would not be available to me. I would absolutely use it if it were though. As it is, I get a lot of household stuff and occasionally non-perishables delivered by Amazon through either Subscribe & Save or Prime.
You have to be careful with it though and really know your prices, because things can easily end up being more expensive there than in stores. But a lot of things are cheaper too. The other disadvantage is that many things are only available in bulk, but as long as storage space isn't an issue (which it isn't for me) then it's nice not to have to worry about buying things as often.
I would probably buy EVERYTHING online if I had the option.
When I logged into my Bank of America account today, I noticed one of their CashBack deals is for PeaPod. You have to register your Debit Card for CashBack deals, it is free and easy.
