What a nightmare. I honestly don't get it; I mean, if you have kids and need milk or formula maybe, but otherwise do people really not have anything in their pantries to last a couple of days?
Ummm.... crickets..... yes
I went to the store near John's yesterday and stocked his pantry and fridge completely. My own, not so much!
We went to the grocery store last night at 9pm and got stuff to make chili and hot cocoa. We were on our way home from my work holiday party and figured if we tried to go today we would regret it.
LOL. Brave souls. On days like today if I really need something, I spend extra at a different store just to avoid the crowds. And I'm usually the type that doesn't mind Market Basket (the suburban ones anyway).

We do have food at home that will last several days, but it isn't food that I necessarily want to eat when stuck in my house. During snow storms, I like comfort food, plenty of junk food, and plenty of alcohol. I don't really keep any of that stuff in the house, so off to the grocery store I must go.
1) I super, super miss S'ville. We used to live in Davis before we found out we were having twins and needed more space (but couldn't afford S'ville).
2) This is why I went to MB last night!! (yeah, we shop there, we's po'). And it was still crazy. If there is ever a day MB ISN'T crazy, the world is about to end. They even make fun of themselves on Facebook!
I just got back from the grocery store. There was NO bread. Ok, there was like a loaf of no-fat, no gluten rye and some other weird bread, but the shelves were almost completely bare and the checkout lines were insane.
My DH works near a Whole Foods. I emailed him to ask if he could pick up a few storm related groceries before he heads home. He said sure, email me the list. I emailed him the list below. To which responded, "you are weird." thanks a lot DH!
Breakfast bars Pretzels (slightly larger sticks if possible) Tortilla chips Peanut butter Small heavy cream Ripe Drink Mix (the one I like) 2 bananas Cucumber Celery Cauliflower 2 Low fat sour creams

Ripe drink mixes are the shit. My friend owns the company and I LOVE them. Now I want a margarita.

I was at a Jimmy Fund golf tournament this summer and Ripe was there sampling their products. There was an open bar at the dinner, but I just kept going back to the Ripe table for drinks. They are the best mixes, now I tell everyone about them! My favorite is the Agave Punch mixed with vodka.
Maybe you can hook us up with some samples at the next GTG!
They have it at the Whole Foods on River Street in Cambridge, I'm not sure about the others. it is made from fresh juice so it is a little expensive, but pretty awesome!

I always go to make sure we have non-refrigerated stuff in case we lose power. The storm in Oct last year we lost power for 3 days, it sucked. Though I guess in a snow storm you have a built in fridge

What are you making with the heavy cream? When I saw the caramel brownies on smitten kitchen yesterday I was tempted to go pick some up so I could have a blizzard baking day. The last thing I need is a tray full of delicious brownies and no one to eat them but me and H, but oh man does it sound good.

I am going to make Fondue. I already have a block of chocolate and some strawberries. That is also why I asked for Pretzels and Bananas. Because what snow storm would be complete without fondue.
