DW is lost in Jersey. I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to help her navigate her way around. OMG. Why can't she just print out a paper map? WTH did she depend on her phone? This woman has technology issues. She is not a tech pro. Why on earth she decided to depend on HER ability to use her phone correctly is beyond me.
So now navigator isn't working and she's on the phone yelling to me about which exits she sees. And I'm sitting here on google maps trying to figure out where the hell she is. This also means that I probably shouldn't leave my office/computer until I'm certain I've gotten her where she needs to go.
I did the same thing to Jen when I took the bar exam. I had the directions printed out - and had even done a dry run the day before! - but I missed the exit and got totally lost. This was before GPS on phones was common, and my rental car didn't have anything built in. I was so frantic and she was so calm - had no idea what to tell me, but she tried really hard to figure out where I was, and just talking to a calm person helped. I finally accosted someone at a gas station and begged for help, and that lady sent me in the right direction.
Fortunately I had given myself 1.5 hours to make a .5 hour drive because I was scared of just such a scenario! Made it with about 20 minutes to spare and I was able to calm myself down before the exam started.
When I got home that night Jen admitted that as soon as she got off the phone she started bawling (and she is NOT a big crier). The calmness was just an act because she knew I needed it!
you need to buy her a car GPS for her car. There is your valentine's gift to her.
I can't tell you how many times I've done the same thing with L.
The funny thing is, my GPS has been sitting on our entry table right next to our bowl of keys for weeks now. She easily could have grabbed it on her way out. Oh well. I finally got her to a familiar freeway and she can now take it from there. I might just have to look into one for Valentines day!
