I stopped by the gas station near my house to fill up my car after work today. I patiently waited in line for a pump (as did the 15 other cars there...). As I pulled up to the pump, I realized that my tank was on the other side. I felt like an idiot (In my defense, my old car had the tank on the opposite side). So I went to turn around and as I'm about to pull back into the pump, a lady zips in, takes my spot and almost hits me. I toss my hands up to indicate "What the heck??" and she rolls down her window and the following conversation ensures:
Lady: "WHAT??" Me: "I was here first, I accidentally pulled in the wrong way and was turning around." Lady: "DO YOU NEED DIESEL???" Me: "What? No." Lady: "THEN GO USE ONE OF THE OTHER 6 PUMPS!!! THIS IS THE ONLY DIESEL PUMP." Me: "I've been waiting in line already and all the other pumps have lines too. Can't you wait one car's worth like everyone else?" Lady: "TOO BAD!! GO FIND ANOTHER PUMP!" and she pulls forward more. Me: ^o) ... wait 20 seconds and then I pull up to a different pump to wait in line again...
It was weird though, she didn't get out of her car to start pumping gas until after I pulled away. DH thinks it's b/c we're in NH and she was afraid I'd pull a gun on her or something, lol.
Anyways, I know I didn't really have claim to the pump once I went to turn around, but she was just so mean about it! Everyone was waiting in line. Diesel pump or not - it was the same wait at all of the pumps. Given that I had just waited in line myself in front of her, it was pretty obvious I intended to put gas in my car and was just turning around.
What worries me is that this was a very very minor "emergency" situation. There was no real emergency/limited resources here, yet human decency went out the window. It makes me sad that this is how some people react when faced with tough situations that are also affecting everyone around them. So yeah, it took way too long to get gas tonight.
LOL, there was a post by lily on MM about the same thing, except she was the woman who pulled in after you and was pissed at the person who pulled in the wrong way. She said that if you pull in the wrong way you lose your turn.
I was on team person who pulled in the wrong way, it was still their turn.
I don't think people's decency went out the window, I think that lady was an asshole. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt and will assume that she her massive hemorrhoids were flaring up and making her hate the world.
I agree, people are asses in general. Not long ago I was waiting and waiting and waiting for a sales associate at Bloomingdales. One finally showed up and another woman proceeded to cut in front of me and try to check out. I calmly said that I was there first and the woman responded "Looks like someone needs to get laid".... WTF? First, the woman was like 50 and second I'm PREGNANT. I get "laid" on a regular basis, thank you very much. I was too shocked to come up with a comeback.
