We lived in CT before moving up here in November. Last Halloween (2011) we got that big winter storm and it knocked out power. Our house in CT is on a dirt road, and there is a well. We had no power for 14 days. We had no heat, no running water. We thankfully had a fireplace and we slept in the living room in front of the fire and used out camping stove to cook. It was horrible. When the power came back I literally cried I was so happy.
This has lead to massive anxiety when they call for power outages. I may need a xanax this afternoon. I also don't know what we would do for heat since we don't have a fireplace like we did in CT.
I don't know what the purpose of this was, I am just ranting and making myself nervous.
I'm sorry, I think I'd feel the same. We only lost power for like 24 hours during that storm, but I was miserable and I'm totally afraid we're going to lose it tonight. It makes you realize how much life sucks without it.
Do you have friends or family nearby you can stay with if anything happens? We have friends pretty far away, but honestly that's what I'm doing if our goes out.
I don't remember having these kinds of power outages when I was a kid (I grew up here). Like 7 days in Foxboro. Why is it so much worse now? The storms aren't that much worse.
My family lives in RI but we would both have to work so it wouldn't work on weekdays. We would be on the lookout for a hotel that takes dogs asap if there was no power!
I agree that this didn't seem to happen when I was little. The only time I remember being without power was after hurricane Bob in the early 90s/late 80s?

Lots of hotels in Boston take dogs. All of the kimpton properties do (Nine Zero, Onyx Hotel, Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge) and I know that the Liberty Hotel does, too.
I don't blame you for being anxious. That storm was awful. We had no power for 5 days and that was bad enough! Last storm (the big Oct one), I actually made a no-penalty reservation in case we lost power. Thankfully, we didn't need it.
