I just got invited to a baby shower where the mother to be isn't going to be present...she'll be Skyped in. For no apparent reason. I'm also supposed to bring a dish to share. And if I want to take part in the baby pool I can bring $5 and for each pack of diapers I bring, I'll get a raffle ticket. And I barely know this person.
I had a Skype shower. However, my husband is Army and we were stationed in Korea at the time. We didn't get back to the States until Syd was 6.5 months old. It wasn't awkward, but it was strictly family. The dish to pass and diaper raffle is TACKY though.
Kinda like my soon to be SIL who sends out an email asking for $250 per bridesmaid for her shower (mind you, she has 10 BM). Then she has the balls to send out another email asking for donations for the open bar she wants. And to top the cake, I just got ANOTHER email asking for money to pay the photographer.
All for a fucking shower. Not the wedding. A SHOWER.
Bitches be crazy. And Kathy's a pushover. While I didn't/couldn't pay for everything she requested I did write a check for $200.

I will absolutely support this if you are stationed in Korea, even for friends. If I am your friend I will also bring a dish and $5 and a pack of diapers. But if I barely know you I will make sure it stays that way. (because obv my support means everything)
I hate the "OMG, I totally held your hair when you puked that one time in college so I'm totally going to send you a shower invite" trend that's going on right now. We haven't talked in years, I don't want to fund your wedding/baby/new house/etc...

I would completely be okay with a Skype shower for that reason. But not when there's no good reason...and I barely know you.

That's truly a bridezilla there. That's just ridiculous!!!

I've been invited to skype attend a shower before, but that's because all of my friends are all over FL/and the US. We also did a Google+ hangout for those of us who live in other states, but couldn't attend my friend's wedding last December. But the asking for a dish and a diaper raffle is klassy. If you wanted diapers to be gifted, register for them.
