I almost suggested re-painting hers to a color she likes. I probably wouldn't do it in my formal spaces, but I'm doing painted plywood in my attic and if I had an upstairs, I might consider doing it there.
I agree with not doing it in formal spaces unless it's a very informal house - like a cottage. When I lived in a Victorian row house we had a mix of painted floors in the hallway and bedrooms upstairs. That worked well.
I bet. I've seen some really pretty ones. I'm not crazy about the all white you posted; it fees a bit icy to me, maybe because of the all-white rooms, not to menion I bet it's a nightmare to keep clean looking. I love that red and white entryway though. Painted wood is one of the ideas in the running for me or our kitchen. But it's one of many (painted wood, clear oak, clear fir, B/W linoleum, B/W tile), so not a high probability, but definitely something I'm considering.

Yah, white floors sound like my definition of hell, tyvm. But I do like the look in the right house. We looked at one house that had them painted brown and I didn't like that. It felt like they didn't want you to notice that it was painted.
