She spilled a bit of him by accident and it got on her fingers. She didn't want to just 'wipe him off' like she was getting rid of him, so she licked it off.
Well, except that it is very unlikely that she is actually absorbing any of him as nutrient and is just pooping almost all of him out a few hours later.

Plus even if she absorbed all of him and he became part of her tissues, cell turnover happens all the time and the cells made from parts of his ashes would degrade and die anyway.

There was a post secret awhile back where the mom ate some of her daughter's ashes. I cannot imagine the heartbreak one must be feeling to be moved to do so.
Something about ashes being put in plastic bags until an urn is selected (at least on tv) bothers me. You can't wipe all of that out. Same if you sprinkle the ashes someplace. That, and some of you probably gets left in the thing/kiln/whatever that burns you up.
Do they clean them out between each person? If not, she could be eating other peoples ashes as well.

I will never forget seeing that episode. Especially when she said that no one knew she was doing it. I just imagined being that mans mom or sister and learning all about this by seeing his wife eating his ashes on tv!

I have no idea and it's too morbid to research.
In my area, you use an individual container for cremation. You are placed in a temporary casket and that is cremated around you, and that way, it's individual and not other people's ashes.
