Friday night we sat on the couch with TV and computers and occasionally got up to stare out the window at the snow. Saturday we went to brunch at a friend's apartment, spent the afternoon there, then went to see Silver Linings Playbook at the theater, and came home from brunch at 11pm. Sunday we relaxed at home, did some cleaning that really needed to be done, cooked spaghetti that has leftovers for the week, and watched the Grammys.
Friday - I left work early to let our sitter/friend go home. By 5:30, I had everyone fed and in their pjs. L got home from work a bit later and we hung out/watched a movie before the kids went to bed and then watched Scandal.
Saturday - L secluded herself in her office so she could work on her edits. I took the kids to swimming lessons and then to the outlets for lunch, to get Carter new pants, to let the kids look in the Lego store, and hung out in the bookstore to kill time and give L more quiet time. I didn't feel well when we got home, so I took a nap while the kids played. L emerged from her office and we ran a few errands and went to Red Robin for dinner.
Sunday - L and I did homework with the kids, went to the printers to pick up her dissertation (all 377 pages of it!), went to Ikea to get another bookshelf, went to Target, and the party store to pick out stuff for her party. Went for a late lunch/early dinner and then came home and let the kids loose in the playroom (have I mentioned how much I LOVE that they will now spend hours down there playing together!?!?!?) Let the kids watch a movie before bed and then we crashed.
I am off today. L is volunteering at the kids' school this morning and I am doing some errands. We're going to meet at the mall for lunch and a bit of shopping (I am hoping to find a dress for her party.) Then she will pick up the kids and I will make chili for dinner - which is perfect for this cold rainy day.
I'm just ecstatic that I was busted out of snow hell.
Thursday night I worked late then got home to a broken furnace. I freaked out because the storm was coming. I was thisclose to packing the kids up and heading somewhere else but my wonderful wife rigged it up to working again (though we'll def still need servicing). We were all home together on Friday - the snow started early and I was praying we'd keep power.
Woke up Saturday morning to an insane amount of snow (nearly 3 feet) BUT, we had power so hurray!! We were stuck in the house all of Saturday (homemade playdough, lots of baking, tried playing outside but the snow was over their heads, played games, and eventually gave in to The Lorax) and most of sunday because they didn't plow our half of the road.
Sunday morning had a milk emergency, but my aunt saved us by running to the store. I spent and hour shoveling a path to meet her at the end of our unplowed street for a milk hand-off. 10 minutes later, I was rocking Daisy and giving her the sippy of milk she had been screaming for all morning when the plows arrived to clear part of the street and our guy showed up to do our driveway. took them over an hour but the kids enjoyed watching them, so all was good. When we finally busted out, we went for a quick swim at the Y and got take out for dinner. After being stuck in the house for days, our 2 hour trip out exhausted them and they were sound asleep by 7, lol.
DW is home with the kids today because I had to go into the office for some interviews (they went well! fingers crossed!). Daycare is open for 2 of them but crazy lady chose to keep them all home instead. good luck to her!
I had such a lovely weekend. Something always goes wrong on my birthday - snowed in, friends go out of town, funeral to attend, etc. - but everything went smoothly this year!
Friday night my parents came over to participate in kid bedtime and then they took me out to dinner. I had a delicious sandwich and a fancy ginger drink. We went back to their house and my mom had a huge banner up and a box of macarons from an awesome local bakery waiting for me. We played Wii, I read for a while, and then slept all night with no interruptions. So dreamy.
I slept in on Saturday and Jen and the kids came over around 11:00, with gifts and coffee and a cookie cake. My mom made waffles and sausage and bacon and Mister Baby had his first waffle while Lady Baby ate orange slices. I opened gifts and then the kids went down for a nap while we played more Wii. Hung out there until it was time to go home to get ready to go out. My parents came over to watch the kids and Jen and I met friends downtown for drinks and small plates, at a place with great views of the city. It was so much fun.
Sunday was a lazy day - played with the kids, hung out with them while Jen went to the coffee shop to get some work done. Last night we watched The Avengers.

Friday I had a training offsite and it finished early, so I went home and had a little extra time by myself. A friend of mine came into town that evening and we went shopping and out to dinner. By the time I got home everyone else was in bed, so I watched one of my shows on the DVR before turning in.
Saturday she worked OT. After she got home we dropped the boy off for a sleepover at my parents' house and headed out for dinner just us, then off to a fundraiser where we met up with some friends. After the fundraiser we went to another bar for an hour or so. It was good to get some much needed alone time.
Yesterday she worked again, although a little later than Saturday (seriously, the OT is neverending). I went and ran an errand before picking up the boy. I made him lunch and then we watched a movie and took it easy. My wife called on her way home and said she was really tired and didn't think she'd be up for the hockey game we had tickets for, so I called my neice to see if she wanted to go and she was super excited about it. I waited for my wife to get home so I could say hi and see her for a few minutes, then the boy and I headed out to pick up my neice.

Happy Birthday Two, Elsa and Quinny-I think I read too late on Friday that you had a birthday too!
Friday: I stopped at the fish market and got fresh crab for dinner. I went to the gym for a workout and then ruined the workout by eating crab dipped in butter. Oh well, it was delicious! Watched a little TV.
Saturday: Started my taxes. E's ants for her ant farm she got for Christmas had arrived on Friday. So I took them to her dad's so she could watch them begin to tunnel. In the early evening I went to the memorial service for my coworker's son. Afterwards I got Thai and went home and had FaceTime with A while she was at work.
Sunday: Finished my taxes. Laundry and some cleaning. Grocery shopping. FaceTime with A.
Fri - they had a visit with biomom, L and I got a few things done while they were gone. Then a little movie and bed.
Sat- chores, played in the snow. Carrot had 30 days of good bedtime and earned herself a trip to chuck e cheese. Which could have either scared pumpkin into better sleep or given him nightmares. I will let you guess which way that went. I have not been to Charles e cheese's in years and...wow. Where is the ball pit? Just 200 decibel arcade.

My weekend was lovely!
Friday around Noon, the dogs and I left to head up to Des Moines to see the DW. We got checked in and napped while we waited for DW to arrive. Once DW arrived we went to dinner, and snuggled.
Saturday, we woke up early and went to counseling. It was another really great session, and is clearly showing us how much we DO want to be together and happy. We grabbed lunch at a nearby whole foods then headed back to the hotel to nap. After our nap we hit up the mall and Red Robin for dinner. We were going to check out the pool but we found out they didn't have a hot tub and we changed our minds. We watched Vampire Diaries instead.
Sunday we had breakfast, and I took off back to KC around 12. It was a great weekend.
