So this is definitely not a detailed before and after because we aren't done with the details yet, but here is the big stuff.
What we've done so far: - removed wall between kitchen and dining room - removed a side wall and added a pillar - added a base cabinet where the refrigerator was and extended counter space by three feet (fridge was moved across the room into one of two pantry closets) - removed awful tile countertops and installed butcherblock - installed farmhouse sink - added pendant lights and changed dining room light
I know these photos aren't taken from the exact same angle, but close enough. The sink is in the same place it was originally, if that helps. Looking forward to installing a pretty glass/stone mosaic backsplash next!

That looks fantastic! I agree with comments on the small glass tile. I'd tend to go with a more understated subway tile with the other finishes you've chosen. What paint color do you have in the dining area? It's beautiful!!
I love the butcher block! Awesome choice. I would avoid the small glass tile thing. For one, I think it will look dated pretty soon, here. For two, more grout = more cleaning.
ETA: Oh my and I didn't even notice that you put in a farmhouse sink. You are pretty much living my dream. But that does make me even more sure that a glass backsplash is a bad idea. I don't think it will "go" with the look you're creating with the counters and the sink. That is a softer, more traditional look. Small glass backsplash has a more "urban" contemporary feel to me.
Thanks for the comment We actually went to Lowe's this morning and are much more set on a basic, classic subway tile now. I agree with everything you said.
