DS's day care teacher is expecting her first baby...due in April. She is fantastic and I'd love to get her a baby gift. Would it be creepy for me to look up her baby registry and buy off of that being that we don't know her THAT well (been his teacher for less than a year) and it's not like I was invited to a shower or anything.
I would probably buy her something off the registry but make sure it was something where it wasn't too painfully obvious that were stalking her registry, like onesies and other common baby stuff. And I wouldn't mention anything about looking at her registry, nor would I have the store mark her registry that it was purchased. Just use the registry as a general idea as to what she wants.
Which really, sounds even more creepy, but not so creepy in theory.
Why are people so weird about the registry? It's public knowledge for all to see. If someone likes you enough to get your unborn baby a gift I don't see what the big deal is. I would appreciate 100% that it came from the registry in case I needed to return it (dup gift) or something. If you don't want people to see your registry then why register at all.

This sounds so intense, lol. Doesn't everyone know these days there there are databases out there where you type in a mother or bride to be's name and bam, a list of their registries pops up?
It's sooo nice to have items checked off as purchased in advance to avoid dupes. And those small, random items on registries are often what people need most.
Team buy off the registry.
I think when you have a registry, you can pretty much expect that your best friend from 2nd grade who is your FB friend is stalking, as could be your neighbor. It's human nature.
ETA: I purchased $20 worth of random registry items for an old high school friend recently, who was due a few weeks before me. And another girl from high school bought something for me off of my registry recently. I haven't seen either of them in 7-8 yrs and we were never super close.
I think it's sweet and if someone did that for me, I'd be really flattered that they were that thoughtful and went to the effort to find out what I actually wanted.

I don't find it creepy at all. It's a nice gesture.
I would only find it weird if you bought her a big-ticket item, like the stroller or carseat or something. But I'm sure that's not what you're talking about here
