I've been looking since the fall for a looong (80-94") console for our foyer wall w/ a runner on the bottom b/c we have speakers for the sound system that we want to keep underneath and off the floor. I just can't find anything long enough that fits what we're looking for. We have a very large painting on that wall and I'm afraid it'll look weird if the console table is shorter than the actual painting. Is this a huge no-no or is this a rule that can be broken?
I've been in that situation before and I tried to use something shorter than the painting and it looked weird.
Now that we no longer live in the house that needed the super long console table, I see them all the time at quirky flea markets and such. I think you might eliminate your requirement for a lower shelf and have some luck. Could you set the speakers on stacked books, bricks, or something else decorative?
Hmm maybe books might work, but I'm not sure i've even seen anything long enough w/o a runner. I xp'd at ce&p & emmy also suggested using chairs, plants, or other art w/ a shorter table. Now I've got options and realize you guys are way more creative problem solvers than I!
