i was in Vancouver for a Tradeshow and ended up staying here: www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/yvrrd-renaissance-vancouver-hotel-harbourside Booked the Club Level so we could get free breakfast in the morning and snacks in the afternoon. I enjoyed the view and location. You can walk along the water which I really enjoyed.
There is a GOOD sushi place near this hotel called Miku within walking distance. The food was wonderful as well as the service. Because we had previously watched Anthony Bourdain in Vancouver we went to Tojo’s. I didn’t think it was worth the 140 bucks we spent on dinner. I think Miku was a lot better. Also we had Dim Sum at www.kirinrestaurants.com/index.php5?page=city_square and it was AMAZING. Service started out slow but the food made up for it.
Vancouver is getting a really good food cart scene! My favourite is the Re-Up BBQ for pulled pork sandwiches. Tacofino and Roaming Dragon are also delicious. These are good options for lunch. Oh, and the Japadog is a mainstay in the food cart scene.
Depending on price point for restaurants and the kind of food you like, I have a lot of recs. Maybe you can give some more details about what you are looking for and I can make some suggestions.
August is usually a beautiful month here and great for outdoor activities. I recommend spending some time at Stanley Park/English Bay and Granville Island is popular.
There is a really popular hotel right in English Bay called The Sylvia Hotel that I think is well priced. I don't know anyone who has ever stayed there, though.
Agree on Chambar. Their neighbouring restaurant Cafe Medina is supposed to serve a great brunch.
I love Twisted Fork downtown for brunch.
Some other good options for lunch are www.acmecafe.ca/ and meatandbread.ca/. Note that these are in a "transitional" neighbourhood" - near east Hastings that previous poster mentioned to avoid - and you may see a lot of homeless people. This is a reality of Vancouver.
