He is getting worse. The "deflated" him once last night and once this morning. They pulled off over 5 liters of air already. O is an 11 pound dog so I can't imagine how bloated he looked. Game plan is now that we need to proceed with a surgical repair. They have him really sedated and will pull air off him as needed every 6 hours or so. Tomorrow, he will go for a CT and will likely go into surgery tomorrow if they can visualize the tear with the results. If not we can endoscope him and maybe find it that way. If we can't find the tear then we are SOL. I'm sweating the vet bill big time. I applied for Care Credit and received a substantial credit line that will be interest free for 12 months. Right now, my bill is hovering around 1,000. I'm expecting my entire bill will top out about 3,000-4,000 dollars. Since I'm not divorced and my state doesn't recognize legal separation, I'm hoping I can get some money from STBXH over this. Doubtful, but any bit can help. :drink:  :drink:  :drink:  :drink:
He remains stable and the doctor believes we can keep it from turning into an emergency situation.
I'm sorry to hear that it's not getting any better. Who owns the dog that caused this? Anyway they would be helping with the bills? I'm not a sue happy person by any means, but I'm pretty sure this would be something where they should definitely be on the line for some of these bills.
No, they are good friends. It irks me slightly that they havent offered to help pay. But, they helped me out a bunch when I moved out so Im not dwelling on placing blame or who should pay.,
I didn't realize it was friends of yours. That stinks that they aren't offering to help at all, but like you said if they have helped in other ways then that's good. Hopefully you get better news soon.

Helping you move is something you do for pizza and beer, not for thousands of dollars in vet bills.
I don't know if I would actually do it, but you should ask for help. I would be horrified if my dog put someone else in that much debt. Yes, I know dogs fight, and it's rare to get injured, but I'd certainly pony up some money, even if there was mutual dog fighting blame to go around.

They let me and my dogs stay rent free for four months. And they watch my dogs when I go TDY for a couple days to a week at a time. I call us square at this point.

Oh, well, that is a different situation, although I'd still pay if it were me b/c letting you stay or watching your dog doesn't actually cost me money.
Would they be willing to help you do a fundraiser of some sort?
No idea. I have been looking into non-profits. I can sell some stuff to cover costs. My STBXH owes me about 400 dollars for our tax refund and also back pay for four months of spousal support. I still have my wedding rings and e-ring I can sell. I have some savings as well. I'm looking into getting a second job as a stocker for the summer and that will probably help pay it off. I'm meeting with my lawyer on Tuesday to see about getting court ordered spousal support and seeing about getting that tax money. Plus some big ticket items I can sell that STBXH took.
On a side note, he busted in my office on thursday demanding why I wasn't answering his texts or calls and wanting to know if I signed the divorce papers yet. Um. Call your damn lawyer and ask. That's what you pay him for. He cussed me out in front of my boss. Mature.

Don't you have some sort of no-contact order against him? If not, why don't you?
I don't know why type of communities you have access to, but you can set up something like a chipin account. Even if people only give $5, that quickly adds up with a lot of people. It's just one starbucks day to forgo
I did. His first shirt could never tell me when it expired. Fishy. So one day he just started contacting me again. Chipin account? I was thinking paypal as well. I have contacted five nonprofits that help with vet bills and two churches. The problem I'm running into is that I am approved for Care Credit but I am going to have a hard time paying it back!
Do the other dog's owners have homeowners insurance? It might cover some of the bills, if you/they could make a claim against it. Do they know how expensive this is likely to get?
Regardless, I hope your dog gets better, and I also hope the cost of getting him better doesn't get as high as you think it might.
Renter's insurance. I think they would laugh at us if we asked.
I'm running the numbers and 3,000 is conservative. I'm at 1,000 now. 800 for the CT. Surgery is 800-1,000 and then a few days after surgery at 150/day in the ICU and hopefully they can downgrade him to the regular pt kennels. Due to his condition he has to be in the ICU in case he goes into respiratory distress. Plus they are afraid the tissue around the tear is necrotic and the tear is getting bigger by the day. Oh and my check engine light popped on. The shit just keeps coming. Apparently, I created a Paypal account before with an old bank account and am now locked out of it because I have no idea the account. Ugh.

L I'm so sorry this is all happening. I think you should check with the renters insurance just because its worth checking into. My thought is it never hurts to ask. Hugs!
