I had both but the beco hurt my back. I was bummed the ergo did not have a front carry but then later I read it wasn't good for the baby's hips anyway. My son is two and weighs 31 pounds and I still use the ergo. The back carry is the most comfy now but I used the front carry for over a year.
We just bought an Ergo performance. It's great for DH, but I don't love it. I tried all types of Ergos at REI and I felt like they were designed for taller people. The performance fit me best, but I am really short-waisted with narrow shoulders and I just can't get a good fit. I also find it difficult to get the Ergo snapped in the back without help. However, DD fits great in it and seems really comfortable.
I really want to try a Beco, but we already have 3 carriers (including a Bjorn and a Babyhawk mei tei) so I think I'm done.
I love my Beco. I like that I can keep the back clip fastened since it has the inner panel. The panel also makes me feel better about getting into the back carry position. The infant insert comes with it and is better than the Ergo insert.

I agree with this. I tried my friends' ergo and preferred the Beco. We both had babies born in May and they couldn't use their Ergo during the summer because the infant insert was insanely hot.
Also, I wore mine on the back more than they did (if ever) because it was much easier to do, due to the inner panel.
I know I replied to you elsewhere but I really love my Beco more than my Ergo. I find it more comfortable, my dd seems to like it more, and I could do a forward carry if I needed to. I like my Ergo, and still use it from time to time, but use the Beco almost daily and my dd is 14 months.
I also have a mei tai and a moby, but find the tying annoying. I loved, loved, loved my ring sling for about the first 4 months. it was so easy and my dd loved it too.
I have both an Ergo and a Beco: I love them both and use them interchangeably. Especially now that DD is older, I don't really have a preference for one vs. the other, though I tend to leave the Beco set up for me and the Ergo for DH b/c he prefers it over the Beco.
You can't go wrong with either carrier. The only main difference for me is this:

ITA agree re: the heat issues. Our babies were late May and late April: we actually had a Bjorn Air to use for DS in the summer b/c the Ergo + infant insert (basically a small quilt that you fold to wrap around the baby...holy insulation) was just too hot. Add to that that the infant insert was a little bit of a pain to position properly, esp. when they're so new and foldy, that the Beco would win my vote for newborns, though after they're out of that stage, I think they're very comparable. The Beco does allow you to carry forward facing if you like that, but honestly, I was so used to the Ergo's positioning (inward facing forward carry) that I never used that function.
I have and love both. DS HATED the ergo until he was around 4ish months old. Thought the infant insert was a torture device and was too tiny for just the regular set up. I got the Beco around 3 months and that was such a better fit for my little peanut baby. By 5 months, I was using them interchangeably. I now keep one in the house and one in the car.

I like my Ergo, but wish I'd bought a Boba. Can you try them out somewhere? I was lucky to get to try both, but the Ergo was a better price, so I went with it.
