Things that make me feel old...

Our intern lost his stapler. I made the inevitable Office Space reference, and was rewarded with a blank stare. He has never seen it. He was like 2 when it came out.

Yesterday I went to speak to a bunch of 8th graders on career day. As we were talking about what they can focus on in high school to be career ready, I suddenly realized that I graduated from high school before most of them were born.

Get off of my lawn.

I was on the phone with my cousin (she's 15). She said something was "cray cray", and I didn't get it. When she explained that it meant "crazy" I ranted about how absolutely ridiculous that is, in turn making me feel old.

But really? Cray cray?

Yes....I've only had one 13 year old, but tons of 14 and up. My son is going to be 13 this month. I can't comprehend!!

I work with students going to school on the GI Bill, and many of then are 10 years younger than me. It blows my mind.

I had one of those moments. My high school asked me to come back and talk about my career and realized that I had babysat some of the kids I was talking to. Yikes!

And I'd guess that 99.97% take their babies home, and a pretty high percentage are pregnant again within a year or two.

In that same group of 8th graders was a very pregnant girl. Terrifying. It was sad to think if the baby inside of her follows in her shoes, she could be a grandmother by the time she's my age. The school was in a rougher neighborhood, so I'm just hopeful she has some support, whether from her family or through the school.

Being two when it came out is no excuse. That movie is a pillar of American culture.

I fully agree! I told him I was bringing him a copy, and if he didn't watch it and report back, he would fail his internship.
