Going to Chicago late July for Great Urban Race. Any suggestions for a cheap hotel? We are looking fit under $120/night including hotel. We will be there Friday through sunday :/
When my mom came down with my brother they stayed at Embassy Suites on 511 North Columbus Drive. I think her rate was $136 a night. That was midweek too. Nice hotel nothing to fancy.
$120 and less will be rough. We have stayed at this B&B in Oak Park www.undertheginkgotreebb.com/index.html Gloria the owner is really nice. The rates are awesome and if your coming with a car you will save a ton of money not paying for hotel parking. You can walk 10 minutes to reach the green line which will bring you downtown.
Living Social and Groupon are your other bets for cheaper rates.

Thanks. It has been a few years since we have been to Chicago. Looks like we should up the budget a bit for the trip lol. I will check our the suggested hotels.

Looks like our old hotel is available that weekend for under $120 and includes parking. It's not too bad with taxes. Waking distance to the race and like a 5 minute walk to the shops. Thanks everyone. It's rundown but overall not bad.
I also rec Priceline for Chicago. We're thinking of signing up for Urban Race. Have you done one before OP?
I've never done one before but from the blogs I read it sounds like a lot of fun. I googled reviews and a bunch of race blogs came up. It's great at keeping myself and husband motivated to keep up with our walking/running goals. GUR is a potential 5-8 miles which gives that extra push when I'm feeling lazy lol. My husband wasn't as excited since he didn't read any info that i was sending him on it but after a season of the amazing race on tv he is super excited. He now knows what he was signed up for (read some of the blogs finally) and is excited. Our goal is just to have a good time and finish.
It also gives us an excuse to take a weekend in Chicago, one of our favorite vacations. We haven't been in a couple years due to the high cost and trying to save for a house/pay down debt. The race is the focus of the trip but I'm hoping to find time for the Mythbusters exhibit, some walking around the city (love the buildings!), and the zoo hopefully. We have only gone in the dead of winter before so it will be nice to see the city without all the snow.
