Does anyone know anything about buying kitchen cabinets through Costco? It seems there are several brands available.
We are just starting our cabinet search and are pretty clueless. We want good quality, but don't need the top of the line. I suspect our sizes will be weird and we'll need semi-custom (which it seems these are).
The other (potential?) challenge is that we are doing a gut job and a new floor plan, so it's more difficult that just measuring the existing cabinets and placing an order, I assume. We have our architects plans. I'm sure that's enough for a kitchen cabinet store, but what about the Costco suppliers?
I don't want to investigate much further if the reviews aren't good. Does any have experiences they can share?

I don't have any personal experience with their cabinets, but it seems there is very little Costco doesn't do well. If I was looking to redo my kitchen I wouldn't hesitate to get a quote from them.

My business partner has had bad luck with costco installers, vendors, and I am not convinced that they couldn't have gotten a similar or even better price elsewhere, on the products/services they have gotten through them. I thought they paid a lot more for their quartz counters in two small bathrooms, than other people that I know have paid for their quartz counters from other places...and the other people didn't have the same kind of problems.
I like Costco as much as the next person (except for my business partner's H...it is his favorite place on the planet), but the services that we priced through them were not any bargains.

That's why it's good to shop around, for sure. We are in the process of redoing our bathroom. The cabinet ended up being cheapest for us at a custom cabinet place over Home Deopt, Lowes and the other bigger local places we got quotes from. And, that was for a higher end brand. We ended up getting our quartz as a reminet piece from Lowes (from a tip from our cabinet guy who said they offer better prices than he could even get wholesale) for only $30/ft, more than half price! Granted, the cabinet and counters don't get intalled until next week, but I was surprised that a small high end custom place was able to offer better prices on a better cabinet than the big box stores could on midline cabinets.

Thanks. We are just starting the look. Our architect didn't recommend Lowes or HD because he thought we'd find the same or better quality elsewhere. We went to a few showrooms, but didn't have final plans at the time to get any quotes. I will definitely shop around.
Anything in particular that I should be looking for? Anything to avoid at all costs?
Do you need to order though Costco.com? My experiences for Costco.com are vastly different than Costco. Love Costco, not so much a fan of Costco.com.
No, you are actually directed to the cabinet company websites. I don't think Costco is involved in any way other than it supposedly gets you special pricing/discounts.
Cabinet companies are: Tuscan Hills and All Wood Cabinets.

I don't know anything about the cabinet companies, but that just reminded me that we got a discount on my suv by going through Costco. I had totally forgotten about that.

TBM, thanks for that reminder. We might start car shopping soon, too, and I forgot that Costco has the car buying service. (It's going to be a pricey few months for us.)
I can't speak for their quality, but I would be surprised if you'll get the best price through Costco, since they are essentially acting as another middleman in the process and you will get to pay the markup.
Ditto. One of my friends recently built a house and I don't think she found any great deals through costco's vendors.
Do you have a local lumberyard/kitchen and bath store that sells cabinets? They have some lines that are very comparable in price to HD and Lowes but might be a nicer quality. I've also seen KraftMaid and Decora cabinets at the big box stores - those are both good brands.

Our car dealer gave us a AAA discount too, and then DH arrived and negotiated with them for a better deal.
BTW, I asked my business partner about the Costco vendors, and she said that the were looking at the same source that they wound up getting their quartz counters from and he told them that they could get a better deal if they went through Costco, so they did. She was bragging about what a great deal that she got, but it was the first time she's mentioned the counter in 3 yrs without complaining about the problems that they had with the installation, etc.. She's pretty cheap though, and always proud of her great deals, even when they turn out to be huge headaches. weird.
