love it. how did you get all the old shrubs out? i need to do that but my water pipes are right there and i'm scared i'll break them pulling up roots.
My husband did it not me lol. Chain sawed from top to stump. Little by little. He tried axing the stumps/roots out but in the end we just got out what we could and hid them with the new stuff or covered them up with mulch. Some of the roots were just left there. I'm not sure I'd risk trying to get all of your roots out with the water lines there. That's scary.
Wait- did you really plant a tree 1' away from your foundation? What is that plant? Is it a tree hydrangea or something?
Yeah, I noticed that too - how big is that going to get? It looks like it's going to be too big for that spot in about 2 years.
It looks nice now, you just have to make sure to remember to plant things far enough apart and far enough from the foundation so they'll continue to look good years from now.

It's a lime light hydrangea tree and it's pretty far out from the house and doesn't get very big. Maybe the angle makes it appear closer than it actually is. It's quite further away from the house than those big old shrubs were. The tall green ones are Russian sage and the low plants are heuchera (as someone previously mentioned).

So how far away from the house is it? I know how big they get; I wouldn't call it "not very big".
