This is will soon be our kitchen. It has a fan. I am thinking about getting rid of it. I would rather have lighting in its place. So what do you think? Do you have a fan in your kitchen? If so do you use it often?
I voted to keep but get a new fan. Since there aren't any windows in your kitchen, I think having a fan would be nice to help circulate air. I have a ceiling fan in our dinette and use it often.
I voted to keep the fan but get a new one. My kitchen is very similar lay out to yours but we have a window over the sink. We took out the ceiling fan when we repainted. I prefer the lighting but I have wished for the ceiling fan back many times while cooking. It can get so hot when the stove is being fully used.
I'd vote have a fan in there, but I live in the nasty hot south. There are also the light kits to change just the lighting on the existing fan, if that fan is decent quality and the color you like.
When we bought our house, it had a fan like that. We took it out and replaced with a light fixture. We never used the fan, and I didn't really want to fling cooking particles everywhere in the kitchen.

This. That fan would get so much grease on it. It would be a nightmare to keep clean to prevent dust and other stuff from flying around your kitchen.

I think an industrial type fan with shorter blades would be great in that space.

I voted to get rid of it. We had one in our old kitchen (pre-redo) and while it worked, I was always grossed out by the crap a fan collects and the idea of turning it on and flinging that stuff into my food. But I'm kinda weird like that.
If your house is cool enough without it, it's not necessary. The only thing I've found to be handy about a ceiling fan is that if there is one near the smoke detector, turning it on WILL prevent the detector from going off when I'm stir-frying or when I accidentally heat up my saute oil too hot.
Dust and grimes are the exact reasons I don't want the fan in the kitchen. I have never had a fan in the kitchen before and I am pretty sure I won't be using it all.
Ok light fixture barely wins but I am shocked how basically its 50% of each! I thought all you will lean one way D & R! I am not a "fan" of this division amongst us!

between this and the thermostat staying low, I change my vote to get rid of it. The mentions of dust flying into food made me happy I've never thought to have a ceiling fan in the kitchen (my thermostat stays at 78 in the summer with ceiling fans in almost every room - single pane windows make it so 68 never allows the system to stop running.)
