I think I might wear my heart rate monitor to walmart tonight, just to see how many calories I burn and what my max HR is. With my luck, I wouldn't get any crazy customers this time.
But there are levels of crazy. The regular crazies won't raise my HR too much. The ones that cuss me to my face and tell me how terrible I am are the special crazy ones.

Maybe it's just because I don't spend all day there, but I never see any of the crazy stuff people are always saying about Walmart. I don't doubt it happens, but I wonder why my Walmart is so calm. It's no different than shopping at Target, except the lines are SHORTER!
Can't wait to hear how your shift goes, 42 (?) days and counting...

I live in a lower income area, so the clientele are less educated, and more ghetto. Plus it's money center, so if people can't get ther money, they get upset. The main things I get cussed for are: we can't take expired IDs, we can't cash post-dated checks, people don't have the required types of ID when they're sending large amounts of money, the check gets denied by certegy and I can't cash it, and we can't give change out of the register.
I was only here 30 mins before I got cussed today (couldn't cash his check). I didn't wear the monitor today-tomorrow is busier, so I might do it then.

The only time I've felt in danger at a big box store was at a Walmart in a bad part of town. I was trying to check out and a guy in a hover round kept ramming me with the basket to move forward. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.
You are a saint for having the patience to last there over a year!
I've had customers threaten me. One was escorted from the store and then banned by the police when he was threatening our loss prevention guy. On another occasion, a man thought I stole his money. He was acting suspicious when he came in; he mentioned that someone who was at least 6-8 feet away was standing too close to him and that that made him nervous. Because of that, I was already treating him with kid gloves. But he kept changing the amount of money that he wanted to put on his card, and the whole transaction has to be canceled when you do that. So he'd hand me money, change his mind, then I'd hand it back and a manager would cancel it. He freaked out on the last one and said that I'd stolen his money. Luckily a manager was standing there for most of it. He started shaking his head weirdly, and then when he left he stopped at the door and pointed at me, and then walked away. Freaked me out! I had a manager walk me to my car that night. What's freaky is that he's come in several times since then, and acted completely normal. I think he has some legitimate mental issues and maybe hadn't taken his meds on the first visit. I get nervous every time I see him.
The memorable ones are the church ladies. One told me that I was stupid, ignorant, don't use my head, and that her 8yo niece is smarter than I am; all over a 70 cent money order fee that wasn't even hers (her friend was the actual customer). I'm not sure I'll ever forget that. Luckily I was so angry that my brain completely froze up, but I maintained eye contact with her the entire time she was ranting. I wish stuff like that wouldn't stick with me. It tends to replay in my head.

Bio, I am so glad you are quitting that job. No one should be treated like that. I'm always overly friendly to my cashiers because of the stories you tell.
