After many many paint chips and buying five different paint samples I have officially pinned down the wall color for my daughters room makeover. It's Window Pane by Sherwin Williams and I love it. I have never bought paint from Sherwin Williams though. How much is a gallon and what type do I get? For instance we usually buy olympic premier paints or once upon a time we bought valspar no VOC paint and primer in one. I'm not sure how SW works. Any help wouldbe appreciated. Here's a pic of a room with it in it and it's pretty true to the color (cool neutral green/blue/gray):
I would go with Emerald. It's a paint and primer in one and the coverage is great. I've gotten away with just doing one coat in a couple of rooms. I always buy two cans but either don't use the second can or only use a bit. I think full price is $67 but I wait for the 40% or 30% off sales.
Get on their Preferred Customer list, and wait for a sale - it's too expensive to pay full price for! And they have sales of some kind once a month or so, it seems like.
I haven't used Emerald; my whole house is Duration in matte. I've been very happy with the finish and durability. With sales, I usually spend in the $40s I think per gallon.
Unless you're making a drastic wall color change, I would skip primer. I never use it unless I just took down wallpaper or am painting over major wall repairs/new sheetrock/etc. I've never used it for just a paint color change.
What a pretty color! Our whole house is SW paint. I painted our kids bedrooms with Emerald based on the rec of the salesman who claims it will hold up well to the beating kids will give/ scrubbing it clean etc. I didn't find the coverage to be great though and still needed 2 coats in all their rooms and they are all light colored.
2 rooms are the HG TV paint and I actually really liked how that went up- I painted my office Navy and the coverage was great. The rest of the house is super paint, and I liked that as well. All the paint is new though so I can't attest to how it holds up but so far I have been happy with the coverage of all of the levels
We went with Emerald last fall for our MBR and DD's room: we covered the existing chocolate brown paint in our MBR with 2 coats of SW Silvermist (a pale gray-blue), no primer necessary.
Ditto the others about SW sales: we bought ours during the 40% off sale last fall: I feel like we paid $37ish/gal. during the sale, give or take a few dollars. I regularly get emails for 25% off. Definitely sign up for the SW emails: they issue coupons frequently and will notify you of sales.
Emerald is my favorite. I am a Duration fan too, but gave Emerald a try and really like it. Both are durable/scrubbable, and have really nice look.
I have used all of their other lines, except HGTV, and they aren't bad...I just feel like there is a quality to both the paint and the way the color looks that is worth the extra money to me.
ETA: No one at SW has ever tried to push me to buy the pricier lines...actually, I have had more of them try to push me toward the lower cost lines. When questioned, it turns out that they thought they were being nice, trying to help me save money, but themselves had not actually painted with the more expensive lines.

Ditto: when I asked for recommendations based on our anticipated use (MBR, kids room, etc.) the SW rep suggested Duration: no one tried to push us into Emerald, but during the 40% off sale, the price difference between the two was almost negligible. Given how many good reviews of Emerald I'd read before we made the decision, I decided it was worth the small splurge.
You can always go to Home Depot and Lowes and have them color match it. Just because it's a SW color doesn't mean you have to buy SW paint. If you're set on buying SW, I'd definitely wait for a % off coupon.
I really like SW paint. Most of our home is painted using their Harmony line and it has gone on beautifully. It is around $55 a gallon around here and I always wait to use their 30/40% coupons. Our library and dining room is the Duration line simply because of the deep/dark colors that are used in those two rooms that apparently were not available using Harmony. I was pleased with the Duration, although I am personally not a fan of any finish other than flat. I have painted the trim in our house using Behr paint, and when it comes time to repaint I will switch to SW. I just feel like it is a better quality, and with the coupons, it is almost the same price as Behr.
