I purchased 6 tomato plants from a local nursery and planted them about 2 wks ago. I noticed yesterday that they appear to have blight. I have two plants from another place that look healthy and that I planted about a week ago. I know it spreads, so I know the other two are at risk. One of my pepper plants and my eggplant is getting yellowish leaves on the bottom row of leaves. Is there anything else that might cause yellow and brown leaves and cause the stems to turn dark? So far the top set of leaves look good (new growth), but the bottom row of leaves look bad. They looked fine when I purchased them.
I sprayed SeaCide on them last night that I got through Burpees, but it's more of a preventative than something that will get rid of it.
Anyone have any remedies that you've tried that work? Or should I pull them all out and start over? I know it can affect the soil, so I don't want to buy a bunch of plants and have them end up infected too. Since it's still early in the season for my area, I could replant without them being set back too much. I'm in zone 5.
its been raining all the freak time here - I'm guessing that can't help. I wonder if my plants are going to go too soon. They have yellow leaves on the bottom.
I'm at work right now, so I can't post pictures. I'm fairly certain that it's blight. It looks like one of my plants did last year that lived, but looked terrible. The one last year was in a pot on my patio and away from my garden, so my garden was okay.
We haven't had that much rain, so I'm thinking that they had the start of it when I got them (even though they looked healthy). Although, my mom bought some the same place/same day that I did and she said her plants look ok, so who knows.
If it is blight, the virus infects the soil, so don't plant anything susceptible to blight there again, unless you dig out and dispose of all the soil.
How long do I have to wait before I can plant anything there again? Or will it always be there? I have a very small garden and no where else to put it!
