My favorite sanctimonious FB mom is posting this image, with no flu shots for my family, ever and this is why folks! and I want to tell her to fuck off in the nicest way possible. Type 1 diabetes is autoimmune which puts Mia at increased risk for severe complications from the flu. It takes her forever to recover from an illness (sometimes months), and her blood sugar is nearly impossible to control, which can be really scary in itself, much less with vomiting and respiratory issues and fever.
Now not to be misunderstood - I get why people would not get the flu shot. Fine. I never used to either until recent years, but now I'm scared I might get my daughter sick. So I've done my research and made the best decision for our family. The flu shot could save her life. Also my mother died of T1 complications in conjunction with a sudden UTI. Her body just could not fight it and her organs quickly shut down. Her symptoms began on a Friday and she was gone that Monday.
But it's the way she puts it, the way she puts so many things that grate on my fucking nerves. Her FB page is mostly look at me! the perfect Christian anti-Obama mama with the cleanest house training for her 15th marathon!

What LHC said.
One of my good friends got the flu shot for her 3 kids, her and her H did not get it. They both got influenza - and it sucked for them hard core. None of the kids got it - amazing.
what LHC said, and the animal viruses are from eggs, which is why they ask if you're allergic to eggs.
I get it because a) I don't want the flu and have never gotten sick from the shot, and b) it's required at my hospital. if an employee doesn't get the shot, they have to wear a face mask for every shift throughout flu season.
Apparently guys, there are different strains of the flu and like, Mia can totally get the flu still anyway. (no shit) So there's no point in getting the flu vaccine. And mercury is way more of a risk than coma or death. (fucking idiot)
I've had the flu shot every year for the last 10 years (it's mandatory for my job), and never had the flu in that time.
It really bothers me when people post stuff like that on FB. I think I would hide someone like that from my newsfeed....no point in responding. Generally people THAT sanctimonious have no desire to actually be well-informed. I feel bad for her kids though.
I've had the flu shot every year since I was born. (Or as young as they allow it) I have asthma an when I get a cold it lasts forever so no thank you too the flu!
My employer also does require it, or wearing a mask.

I swear, people's idiocy about mercury might be the bane of my existence. I had a patient scream at me over the phone last week because their insurance wouldn't cover composite fillings (which is obviously not something our dental office controls, it's something the insurance controls) and HOW DARE WE STILL OFFER FILLINGS IN AMALGAM, THEY HAVE MERCURY AND WE'RE POISONING OUR PATIENTS, WE'RE TRYING TO KILL PEOPLE, etc, etc, etc.
To answer the original question, though, I do not get flu shots because I am allergic to eggs. I have never had a flu shot, and my doctors decided there's too much risk of me having an adverse reaction.
We don't get the flu shot, not sure what we'll do in future years.
I think it would be best if you not take everything someone posts on facebook so personally. People post their shit just like, well, people post their shit. The stuff you agree with doesn't piss you off. I'm sure if you read some pro Obama crap you don't worry about how people who don't like him feel. So either just keep the people you agree with in your feed or accept that people have their own interests.
My youngest DD got one. I didn't get one as they were doing them at work but they refused to give it to me as I was still nursing DD. My older DD didn't get one, we weren't in the doctor at all for her this winter so far. H got one through his work.
wow, there is a lot of stupid floating around this thread.
No joke. All we're missing is for someone to come in and say how they don't have to bother getting the shot this year anymore because they had the flu last week and were throwing up for 24 hours straight.
We usually do, we didn't get around to it this year and I feel pretty guilty about it, but we have so far made it through flu season without getting it. My nephew almost died of H1N1 three years ago, he was 2. He already had it when he got the shot, developed the illness the day after and spent a week in the hospital not being able to breath on his own. If giving my kids a little bit of mercury and formaldehyde (lol) can save their lives), I am all for it.
Yes, we all get the flu shot. We have no reason not to. DS was sent home with a letter from daycare yesterday stating that there have been "several reported cases of influenza" so you can bet I'm really glad that we are all protected.
