At the beginning, there were parts where I wanted to tell her to grow up and stop throwing her life away. Mostly I was very sympathetic because losing my mom is one of my greatest fears, but sometimes it seemed like she was doing everything possible to ruin her life. Overall, though, I liked the book, and I think her writing is beautiful.
During the part where they had to shoot the horse, I was bawling my eyes out. It was so upsetting.

I read it and enjoyed it quite a bit for a book I picked solely because I was drawn to the cover. At the beginning I definitely wanted to shake her and smack some sense into her. Even at various points throughout I thought she could use a good smack upside the head, but in the end I thought it was really empowering and she is way more bad ass than I'll ever be.
