Is it just my area of the country? The Walgreens stores are always much cleaner and the pharmacists actually appear to know what they're talking about (and take the time to tell you useful information about your prescription). And at CVS, there's always a line like 10 people long at the pharmacy. And it's dirty. I've lived in 4 places in this area and it's been the same in every city.
Walgreen's is much nicer in my area. And although this is obviously pharmacy specific, our local CVS has some of the dumbest motherfuckers alive working in the pharmacy department.
Every time I go in there I have to argue with someone.
"We don't have a prescription for you."
"Yes you do. Check again"
"Ummmm" Cue the pharmacy tech fucking around for 10 minutes trying to find the prescription. "Oh here it is! I put it in my pocket! Harhar!"
I prefer Walgreens. I mean, I'm rarely in there but I drive through for my Rx's every month, stop there for emergency cold medicine and we got our flu shots there last year. It's clean and the pharmacist is very knowledgeable. That's all I care about.
This is a sore subject for me, but I worked as a tech for a couple of years at CVS and our regional management was a joke. We never had the staff that we needed to properly and efficiently handle the volume of prescriptions we were running. Inventory was so shitty we were always running out of meds. Customers had to make do with a couple of tablets until we could get a new shipment in. Pay and benefits were so, so bad. It was the most stressful job I've ever had, and sometimes I still have nightmares that I'm back working there.
We have one nice, new Walgreens and CVS in my town and one crappy old CVS. in my old city, the CVSs were much nicer but farther away so I went to the crappy Walgreens or even crappier Rite Aid because it was about a 30 second walk from door to door.
Hmmm, we have a lot of new Walgreens stores in my area, but I still prefer CVS. It has a softer aesthetic (LOL) CVS is carpeted and it looks neater/prettier inside. Walgreens has those beige tiles and it just reminds me of an old school drugstore like Rite Aid.
CVS is the Target of drugstores and Walgreens is the Walmart.
Walgreens is much nicer here than CVS. The CVS stores are dirty and sketchy. Plus their shelves are always bare. I've never filled a prescription there so I don't know about their pharmacists.
Cvs here sucks. The staff are rude a hell and the pharmacy moves at a snails pace. This is based on the one by my house we used briefly and the one my grandma uses. Walgreens was awesome but the one we go to right now started going down hill about 6 months ago. I love their refills by email though so I tolerate it.
CVS is fine here, but Walgreens is better. I love that there's a makeup counter lady who always always wants to offer help, and I like to pay there when the line is long at the regular cashier. They have Hallmark and gift wrap cards, which, as far as drugstore greeting cards go, are better than whatever CVS carries. And Hallmark makes a line of singing greeting cards that my nephews like. I'll still go to CVS if they're having a good deal on something I need, but if all other factors are equal, I'll go to Walgreens.
Rite Aid, though, is gross and poorly run. The stores are laid out badly, the cashier counter is set up inefficiently, and my stuff has rung up incorrectly so many times there. Now I don't even bother looking at their Sunday ad, because even if something is cheapest there, I still don't want to go.
