I am super laid back about colds. I only took Hen to the pedi for one once, in December 2011 because C was worried about his persistent cough, and I knew pneumonia was going around - also we were about to travel for Xmas.
So what makes you call the pedi? If it lasts a certain amount of time? Certain symptoms?
I just don't like the thought of bringing him in needlessly, and potentially exposing him to something worse in the germy office.
I basically don't. The only time we've ever brought them in for colds was when they were retracting and needed breathing treatments. But that's because they have asthma so breathing is a heightened concern.
I rarely take them in, usually only when the SW's ask me to. Apple caught a cold in Oct that I finally took her to the Dr for last month because it was affecting her breathing.
The only time I take them is when I think (or am sure) that the cold has caused an ear infection (and hence we need antibiotics.) Or if they are acting completely out of the norm (a few days of lethargy/increased sleeping/several days of fever that doesn't go away with OTC stuff.)

Ditto everyone else, I don't unless it seems to have progressed to something else. Gwen has some breathing problems that sometimes require treatments, so we would take her in if it seemed that was needed. Now we have a rescue inhaler at home, so we hopefully won't have that problem anymore!
I have yet to take them in for anything except for shots/well baby and Lady Baby's eczema. When I get concerned I call the nurse helpline for our practice, describe the symptoms, and ask them what to look out for. We didn't even take them in for norovirus - just called and then kept an eye on hydration indicators and behavior to make sure they were OK. When there is nothing the doctor can do, I would rather keep them at home.

I am one of those parents who runs to the pedi for almost everything. The Kiddos tend to run fevers and get ear infections really easy (even with their tubes) so we go to the pedi a lot. Though Little Man has not been officially diagnosed with asthma, it always seems that no matter how small the cold he needs to use the nebulizer.
From the posts above, I am definitely the wrong one to answer.
