Holy crap, I didn't see your pp, Starfish. I"m so very sorry!
I hope they get you some answers ASAP! You must be out of your mind worried. Do you have any family nearby to help you out with the other kiddos/take some stress off you guys?
Glad the ER is taking this seriously, and ditto pp's about filing a complaint about the pedi that jumped to conclusions. This is a pretty serious mistake to make.
I hope they get this figured out fast for you guys.
I hope it's nothing with your baby Edith has speech and mild sensory issues too, but isn't violent. SN is not a recipe for violence FFS and I hope you find a new pedi.
I started typing in the OP that it might be low platelets but deleted because everyone else had suggestions. My brother had low platelets growing up, I think somewhere around 80 or 90. Now his platelets are at normal levels. I'm not sure if they increased on their own or if they treated him with something (i was just a kid) but I hope that's the case with your LO, and the platelet level goes up.
That doctor is a total ass. Its unacceptable that he completely missed a medical issue due to his prejudice against SN children. I would raise a small amount of hell.
Oh man. I'm so glad you insisted on the blood test. I'd personally want to take the results and staple them to the forehead of the dick doctor who accused you guys of hurting her.
Honestly, I'd go a step further and report your interaction to his supervisor or the HMO. Not that he thought it was abuse (it is part of his job to keep an eye out for potential abuse) but that he didn't run any other tests to rule out other dangerous situations. Not okay. Very not okay.

Starfish - if you haven't already found it, you might look at the Platelet Disorder Support Association site (www.pdsa.org) for lots of good information about ITP in kids. They also have a section called "Join the Community" with "Discussion Groups" or forums for people who are dealing with ITP. One section of these forums is specifically for parents of children with ITP. I haven't been on those boards in years and years, but when I was on them they were incredibly informative and helpful ... to people who definitely had ITP and to people who were still awaiting a final diagnosis, but who had symptoms consistent with it.
I would definitely file a complaint against the doctor. That many sudden bruises esp a hematoma on the back of her head are nothing to ignore. Gum bleeding occurs with really low platelets, but more common in people who can brush their teeth or eat solid foods. If you look in her mouth you may see canker sore type sores. a CBC (complete blood count) can be run and resulted back in minutes.
I hope this is just a one time episode of ITP that a round of steroids will take care of. Sometimes a virus (maybe your DD caught something from your son) can trigger ITP. Sometimes it self resolves, other times meds can help increase platelet count.
So the baby has Immune Thrombocytopenia, and they think it will go away in a few days to a few months. We have an apt to check blood count at the children hospital end of the week. Have to keep an eye on falls and cuts, if bad bruise on head, or cut that won't stop bleeding, we have to rush to ER. I think the funniest thing is while sitting in the ER room this morning, we got a voice mail to call our DR back, he sounded panic, and told us to call him now! He didnt know we had gone to the ER, and was calling to send us to one when he got the blood work. Since we were already were my oldest goes to OT when his apt happened I took him and talked to the therapist. She couldn't believe anyone could think my 3 year old would abuse the baby, since he adores, and is very protective of the baby. She also said if I needed any paperwork, or a letter she would supply that, but that he was the sweetest kid she had. I am really pissed when I got my discharge paper, included was the Dr apt review. He wrote this " I had bloodwork done at quest labs per parent request. I explained to dad that you don't bruise on the spine from falling, nor on the lower occiput- if the bloodwork is fine, which think it will be, that means someone, or something is hitting her. He states that mom is babysitter, and older mat brother (develp delay) attends school mon and wed only. I ask that mom and dad rto one week, will review labs then" That is copied from his report. He also states earlier that " Mat brother is develp delay- and dad states does leave them alone together, Dad has no idea, bruises just appeared one morning he alleges" The leaving alone together comes from saying, when he or I run to the bathroom we don't always take them with us. It really seems like he made up his mind that we just leave the babies alone and run a fight club between them. Or one of us was beating them. I don't think even an heartfelt apology would get me to go back, we already picked a new dr.
File a complaint. Maybe not now since you have a lot on your plate, but please do.
If your doctor felt that strongly about abuse, he should have filed. Not saying he should have (not at all!), just that if he felt the need to write that, he should have called CPS. Idiot.

starfish i have only read the first page of replies (and still haven't seen your op) but i am well versed in bleeding disorders and while e may not have platelet issues, i know some people that deal with such things. please reach out if you have questions, don't understand something, need help, whatever.

wow. not even the good sense to not name specifics in writing before the tests come back. that has to be like med school 101 to not diagnose without all the facts. then the level of condescending. what a d-bag.
glad that you are getting help at the ER and the baby will be ok
If someone was abusing a child, I would't think they would bring said child in to get the bruises checked out they caused. I get trying to protect children, and I live in a big city, so I would imagine more people = more abusive people. I really feel like he just went worse case, and settled there. Never mind ever thing else on his report says well cared, we must be running baby fight club (which I can't talk about) And my DH did not say I was babysitting, that is such a huge pet peeve of mine. From his wording, I think I was going to get the blame next. I am just all around pissed at the Dr. I guess kicking his butt wouldn't help make him believe us?
I hope you guys get some good news and it's not a big deal. I would also file a grievance against the other doctor.
This. I'm sure that's the last thing on your mind right now. But after your baby is better, I would seriously file a grievance so that something like this doesn't happen to another child.
