I'm slowly catching up on top chef episodes during kid nap. It's taking me days to watch an episode.
CUrrently - Watching top chef episode with oysters.
SHIT, I Love love love oysters. Watching them on TV would be torture normally. When we're in Australia, we eat them right off the rocks in some of the most pristine, isolated places you could find. I can't stop thinking about them. I had told dh that if I wasn't pg this month, I was going to eat a shitton of oysters one night - we were going to find a great, fresh source.
Yeah, they say no oysters. I asked about the reasons because I've thought about just risking it if it was just for food poisoning, but they say sometimes you can develop weird allergic reactions and stuff too. I have enough late/weird allergies that developed over the years that I don't want ot risk becoming allergic to oysters. I would cry.
That was one of the first things I tried after a decade of being a vegetarian. dh bought them and introduced me to him. After, he told me he figured I wouldn't like them at all and that he'd get to eat them all. haha. He sometimes regrets introducing me to them. Though he likes them as much as I do.
I ate fish, lunch meat, sushi, drank coffe and soda while pregnant. I also had two glasses of wine. She seems fine lol. Eat an oyster!
I realize I have the option to not be strict.
I don't judge anyone who isn't.
I've had a few m/cs and it's hard when you have a m/c not to second guess every choice you made and blame yourself even though intellectually you tell yourself it's not your fault at all. So, I'd rather not question everything I did.
I do drink coffee. I eat fish, there's nothing wrong with that. I hate pop and lunch meat. I save my wine for later in the pg when I really start to miss it.
My bigger concern w/ oysters is the random allergy development. It's my personal nightmare to consider developing any kind of shell fish allergy. I would be sooooooo sad. Our life when we're in Australia is pretty much all shellfish as well as fishing for it.
Yes, I was 7 months pregnant when I finally had a glass of wine at a wedding. I wanted to claw it from the bartender's hand lol! I would probably be just as cautious if I had m/c as well. My OB said no fish... I'm not sure why. I still ate it. She also said I shouldn't eat lunch meat but had a larger chance of getting hit by a bus than having complications from lunch meat.
They don't recommend a lot of some types of fish - those that have the propensity for higher mercury levels mainly. I think that was the reason. It's been a few years since I've looked into it. We don't eat it that often here. We're a bit picky about our fish. Eating it right out of the ocean does that. I've found a few good local fish shops here.
