Apparently she switched out her dress because Amanda Seyfreid's dress was too similar. I disagree and think choice number 1 would've been LIGHT YEARS BETTER
Ugh. She made the wrong choice! The other dress was so much prettier, and so what if it was a little similar to Amanda Seyfried's?
Although, points awarded for not being a diva and wanting Amanda Seyfried to switch dresses instead - since Anne was nominated and I don't think Amanda was (right?).
The front of Anne Hathaway's dress is almost identical (save the color) to a bridesmaid's dress that I wore in a wedding that happened in....1998. That's right: 1998. Blech.
I'm sure her main issue was that she and seyfried were both in Les Mis and would probably end up in a fair number of photos together during the evening. If that weren't the case she would like have stuck with her first choice.
Well her head was almost completely shaved and hair only grows like 1/4 inch every month...lol. It is not for lack of wanting! Her dress was fug. Amanda Seyfreid looked stunning but I hated her high pitch chirping in Les Mis.

I guess, but if I was the front runner for Best Actress I'd say screw it and wear the best looking dress no matter what anyone else is planning to wear: if you win...the pictures of you alone in the dress holding the Oscar live forever.
Haha, I'm just biased because when we have similar hair cuts people will tell me that I look like her. Since she got the pixie, it hasn't happened and I'm not cutting off all my hair just for random stranger complements.

Ditto this: I had the haircut that Anne Hathaway has now many years ago...growing it out was pain-ful. Like, I was so over the process and it was only chin length many, many months in.

[cough] supporting actress [cough]
But yeah, if I were Seyfried I would have deferred to Anne's choice. But, maybe Anne was nice about it and didn't want Amanda to change her dress idea or something like that.
Still, anything would have been better than what Anne ended up wearing.

Erp...yes...supporting actress. But I'd still go for the better looking dress, and that wasn't it by a long shot.

I think this is a classic case of 'damned if you do, damned if you don't.' You know she would've been all over the magazines for being a look-alike if she went for the 1st dress. The 2nd dress isn't exactly great, but that's probably all they could scrounge up at the last minute. Lesson for next time: Have awesome backup dresses!

No way! I could have walked into any Saks, Nordstrom, or NM and picked a dress off the rack that would have looked better. Heck, the H&M dress looked better than that.

Yep, two years later and my hair is shoulder length again. Hathaway has a lot of wigs and extensions for work in her future.

No kidding! She's Anne Hathaway and nominated for an Oscar. It's not like these were the only two options available to her, so she HAD to take the one she wore.

This, plus nobody is going to remember Seyfried's dress...they will remember Anne's b/c of the win.
How is it that her only two choices were option 1 that was similar to Amanda's and option 2 that was so fug as to be unbelievable?
What was option 3 going naked?
Seriously. I mean it's not like the nip dress was the last dress on the planet. She still actually and willingly chose that nip dress from all of the thousands of beautiful dresses on earth.
And even if it really were the only dress ever that would have worked, it does not excuse the necklace, which didn't work backwards or forwards. Better accessories would not have saved the day, but it would have made the choice something less of a disaster.

It's not like anyone would have said "Anne chose a dress that's similar to Amanda's" anyway. It would have been "Amanda really should have chosen something else and not copied her favorite-to-win costar." I don't think there was a losing situation for Anne in wearing the first dress, beyond potentially getting Amanda talked about (and really, isn't this what stylists are for, to have these conversations and work it out without the stars having to worry their pretty little heads?), whereas the dress she wore was definitely a losing situation.

That is not encouraging. My hair wasn't as short as Anne's..middle of cheek length maybe.. I'm a few months in and i'm over it . whyyyy did i cut my hair.
She's now apologized, presumably because Valentino was upset.
I just read the article. Yikes. Supposedly she had a really close relationship w/Valentino (see...her wedding dress was Valentino.) She had to have known-or at least suspected-that it would cause a rift when she chose something else (Prada) at the last minute.
