Ugh, I watch those shows if I catch them on...I just don't understand how they get to that point
At that point he is enabled by someone on his family.
True true...I always wonder at what point do you realize you can longer get up out of bed, or the chair or wherever you're sitting? It just seems so incredibly sad
I saw the world's heaviest teen, I think that's what it was? That one was pretty terrible too because his mom was the biggest enabler ever, and she was in complete denial about it
As a child one of my parent's closest friends was the 4th heaviest man in the world (listed in the Guiness Book of World Records for many, many years). There have been many people pass him on the list so I don't know where his weight would rank today as I think they only track the top 5 or something.
Really nice guy, just could not ever stop eating. He owned a truck stop and everyone was told not to feed him, staff weren't to serve him etc but he'd always get someone to order food for him on the sly and he'd just eat. I have no idea how much food he ate in a day.
They couldn't afford to order a casket big enough, they took a piano case (which at least used to be very large and very heavy) for him and a crane had to lower it in to the grave.

Uribe is okay! That one really stuck with me so I check up on him every year or so (online.) Google him, he lost a ton of weight and married his gf. although he had to still do it in a bed I think and last update I saw he still wasn't out of the house. He lost hundreds of pounds with no surgery though.
I was in college when he died and I don't recall exactly what it was - I'm sure it was brought on by his weight. He would have been late 40s then, about the same age as my parents. I know he had serious heart problems, I'd guess he had diabetes and all the stuff that seems to go with those two - circulation issues, etc.
His wife was a really nice woman, she had no weight issues what-so-ever. She was just a healthy weight for a woman her age, probably a size 12. They had booths in the truck stop and one of them was on the end. He would pick up that seat and just move it out at an angle several feet so he could sit. He was also fairly tall, at least 6'2'. I no longer remember what his weight was and I also no longer have a copy of any of the Guiness books he was listed in.
