My cat won't let me trim her nails. I've taken her to the vet twice and even they had a hard time. Her regular carpet covered scratching post just seems to sharpen her nails. Got any recommendations?
I don't think such a post exists. The only way to trim a nail is to, well, trim it! Scratching posts allow cats to act on their natural marking instincts, stretch their muscles, and probably most importantly, slough off the outer layer of their claws which I believe can become irritable to them if this doesn't happen. Maybe you or your vet can try a mild calming agent to help your cat be more cooperative during trims. There are supplements you can add to their food, treats, or even remedies that you apply to their ears to calm them down. Good luck.
Ditto PP. Unless if you can find a scratching post that has sandpaper, it's not going to trim or file their nails.
You may just need to work on getting your kitty to let you touch her paws, then work on letting you touch her claws and eventual getting the clippers close (but not clipping) and finally clipping. Each step should be followed by copious amounts of treats I did this with my boys over about 4 weeks and they are pretty chill now when I trim their claws, but they definitely still expect the treats!
