Hi everyone. I lurk on this board and just wanted to say hi! I love to read, but lately have been in a slump. I need some good books to read. I like most all books except for sci fi. I have been an avid reading since I was very little but I just can't get into any books now. And books that people have read that are amazing?? Thanks!
The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor are things I'd consider amazing.
Although not as great as the above titles, I did find The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen to be pretty enjoyable.
Let's see... If you don't consider magic/fantasy to be in the same category as sci-fi, check out Storm Front by Jim Butcher.
If you like literary fiction, try The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton.
If you like entertaining non-fiction and/or travel, maybe In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson.
If you just want to laugh, Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher is a good one.
For romance, have you read Nora Roberts' Bride Quartet?
I'll stop now. I love me some Outlander, but it's not everyone's cup of tea and it is a slow-starter, so you'd have to decide if it were likely to get you out of a reading slump.

I love Carol Goodwin. She writes amazing books. Also I love a good beach read/chick lit book. I enjoy biographys as well. I have been interested in Girl Gone. Is this a good one? I have read mixed things on it.
I was hoping someone else would chime in because I don't really read chick lit (well, unless you include Outlander and some historical fiction) and I've never read Carol Goodwin or Gone Girl.
The most interesting "biography" I read lately was Tina Fey's Bossypants. Funny and interesting reflections on being a woman working in a male-dominated field.
It's been a while but another biography I liked was The Road from Coorain by Jill Ker Conway. However, it wasn't a quick book to get into.
Do you mean Carol Goodman? If so, you might like Kate Morton. I just read The Fate of Mercy Alban by Wendy Webb, and it was somewhat similar to Carol Goodman's books.
Emily Giffin is good for chick lit, and I'll second the vote for the Sarah Addison Allen.

I like to read autobiographies of actors/comedians. Besides Bossypants, I enjoyed books by Michael J. Fox, Rob Lowe and (to a lesser extent) Mindy Kaling.
I also like Marian Keyes (chick lit) and Kristan Higgins (silly romances).

I did mean Carol Goodman. I typed that when I was sick and tired. I will look up Kate Morton on goodreads.
