This one woman is to watch up to nine kids at a time, from infant to elementary age? I wouldn't be comfortable with that, from a safety perspective.

I guess it depends a lot on where you live. Here, $10-$15 per hour for after school is common.

And that's a lot of kids to watch!

What is the going rate for home daycare in your area? We pay $40 per day per kid, so if I was sending my child to an unlicensed sitter also caring for her own children, I would expect to pay less than what a licensed day care would charge.

I would say $10 for the hour and $40-50 per kid for the full day.

It does sound high but maybe she doesn't really want to do it buy would for enough money.

Not exactly the same but I do with with my editors all the time. If a piece sounds boring or I am busy I will ask for way over my going rate. If they bite, I'll do it and be well compensated. If they don't, I didn't really want do it anyway.

When my oldest needed to be carted back and forth to preschool 4 days per week and then watched for from 12-5 I paid $25 per day.

i would never leave my child in a home with that many kids.

our daycare drop in rate is $50/day... which can be from 7am-6:30pm. Most in-home daycares around here are about $8/hour per child.
