My husband thinks the "masterpiece" is JR framing Ryland for his murder somehow. I don't know, but I had a feeling they were going to make a "who shot JR?" storyline.

This could be. I was thinking it might be the guy (from Venezuela, I think? I don't remember his name) that had held everyone hostage at South Fork an episode or two ago and escaped from police custody. I figure since he is on the loose and obviously is quite upset with the Ewings it could be him.
I think Cliff Barnes would be too obvious too. Besides I think Cliff would rather enjoy the torturing the Ewing family by taking over their business than killing JR.

He's dead. Drew shot him when he was about to escape on the helicopter with Elena.
I can't decide if it's genius or ridiculous that they went with Who Shot Jr to write out the character.
I read an article today that said it originally looks like a random mugging, but that as the details unfold over the rest of the season it will become clear that it was intentional.
Victoria Principal said that she won't be returning, saying that she owes it to the fans to leave the Romeo and Juliet ending (Pam and Bobby as star-crossed lovers with a tragic end) intact. I think she made the correct decision.
I wonder if they will just end the season after this year. It's a bit presumptuous to think that they can continue it without JR, even though he hasn't been on as much.
okay after watching this week's episode does anyone think that Sue Ellen may have had something to do with JR's death? I want to know what was in that note the PI gave Bobby! Because then he went in JRs room and was looking at the pic of JR and SE and it just made me think the note said something about SE.
I don't think Sue Ellen had anything to do with it. They have too much history. That would be a betrayal of the character, imo.
The show will probably end with Bobby vanquishing Cliff and becoming kinda like JR in the process. I don't know if I like the fact that they "rebooted" Dallas. They might end up going against the original thrust of the characters.
I also wanted to say that I thought the funeral episode was pretty well done (the random Emma/John Ross hookup notwithstanding - he belongs with Rebecca, so back off, blondie!")
I especially liked the more somber opening credits music, Bobby's breakdown at the end, and Sue Ellen's private and public eulogies.
