I didn't but I sure as hell factored in the cost of the kegs.
I think the kegerator is saving us money. DH uses it primarily and has a brand he really likes in it right now and doesn't want it to run out (mostly i think because he doesn't want to haul a new keg home) so he has sort of unintentionally cut back.

Meanwhile, MrP pulled in the brewing schedule because he really likes what he's currently got on tap and the other one is filled with my root beer.
I tried to figure it out but my brain is too alcohol damaged to remember how much i drank twenty years ago or how much alcohol cost then!
I think it's a serious number but much less than 150k. Add in the cigs i used to smoke (and the pot) and I'm sure i could buy a very nice car now. With cash.
This wouldn't save us any real money. I'm the only person who drinks in our house. And I don't really drink enough to be in the liquor store weekly, let alone monthly. If I buy anything, it's those fruity Smirnoff coolers, and that's maybe a once a month purchase. A drink at a restaurant - maybe once a month. It was twice this month only because I was out with friends.
Then add in the cost of drinks when you go to restaurants of about $9-$12 a pop.
I console myself with the knowledge that I probably would not have put that particular money into savings anyway since I would have viewed it as a part of fun money. So basically I should weep for the awesome clothes, shoes and bags I may otherwise would have purchased with that money.
Agreed.
Plus I'd be thinner, so shopping for said awesome clothes would be easier.
Publius, I really want to know how you got to $150k. I also really want to come spend a weekend at your place.
publius, we'll sit right beside you. We don't have terribly expensive tastes. I try to buy bottles right around the $10 mark. But, quantity counts, and we consume quite a bit.Living in certain countries where a single glass might cost $15 at dinner doesn't help, either.
I'm not even counting the airfare to get to NZ And if I included a recent trip with a friend and what she spent on us? Oh, lord. On the plus side, I now know what a $150 bottle of cabernet, from a store, not a restaurant, tastes like, and I will not be tempted to ever purchase it for myself since it didn't deliver an orgasm.

Such a funny post. Never really thought of it, but upwards of $35k I'd guess. We don't drink out much except the brewery tap rooms and dinner but we held our own in the past!
My sis and her DH don't drink and haven't for 15+ yrs and they don't have an extra $30+k around so I'm guessing we would have spent it anyway.
Oh and if you divide that in half for my share and then divide by the extra 15lbs I have right now, that's over $1k per pound that it's cost me too add to my body. Those are some special, expensive enhancements (assuming it's all alcohol and not having 3 kids that produced my extra weight).
I figured that we probably average about $50/week on alcohol. Some weeks we don't buy anything, but then there are nights when our bar tab is over $100. Multiply that by the 15 years we've been drinking, I'd say about $40,000.
This will be us when we are about 32 (we aren't there quite yet)....because we've been drinking since about 18 (19 being legal age).
Since DW has years on most people here I think her figure alone would be between $40k-$60k and that's just looking at an average of $20 to $30 a week. The last few years has been far less but in. her single days she knew how to have fun ;-)
