Newbie with a question about crating foster dog

Hi guys,

I'm Laura. I've just come out of lurker status and I have a question.

H and I have two mix breed rescues who are 3 and 4. We don't crate them in our home, ever.

I volunteer with our local shelter and am looking to pull another dog to safety and foster him. I know the "rule" is to put the crate in an area that is peaceful but where the pup doesn't feel isolated. I don't think it's fair to crate the dog where our others can be seen running free but I also don't want him in a spare bedroom all alone. I am home majority of the day so he'd mostly just be in the crate at bedtime. What's the best way to do this?

Last time we fostered I felt so guilty putting the pup to bed all alone.
