1)Do you think this board "corrisponds to real like like the bump corrisponds to raising babies?"
2) Why, other than to make a scene and create drama, do people make huge sweeping GBC[whatever] statements? If a person wasn't trying to make a point, or cause a reaction, they could just... idk... leave, right?
also, lurking people of the internet please fell free to share in this scientific data collection
I have to leave for a meeting at the other office soon, but
1) I guess I dont really think we're all that out of touch with reality? maybe i'm too close to the situation and can't see it? I really would like to read other people's insight on this one.
I mean, its like saying MM is out of touch with reality- yeah, there are a lot of very conservative (financially speaking) people on there, with staunch ideas about money and saving and getting out of debt- mean considering the financial situation in our country MOST people have credit card debt and are making it through... I don't think they're wrong or out of touch with reality. You could argue that about any board I guess. We have our topics that we care about (some more than others), but I don't think we're really all that "bump" about things... Maybe others perceive us to be? Maybe since *I'm* not (I don't think) all supermil, I don't see it. I assume Margot was really talking about our opinions on OPSEC type stuff? Thats the only really view we have that sticks out to me as possibly being really ... criticsim worthy?
2) I have never, and probably will never, understood the desire to do a big GBC(_). If you want to leave, just leave. We've had plenty, and will have more. But really, if you just want to leave, there is no need to insult us and sweep out of the room grandly. Is it to get attention? To make us realize how much we suck so we'll change our ways? To start a fight? To just insult people? To make us beg you to stay? I don't get it, really. Do you really need to annouce all that? Like, if you want to go post on ML or MM or CE&P or wherever, we see you posting over there. We may not be MENSA members, but we are smart enough to recognize that when someone posts 80 times a day on a different board, and hasn't been back, they've left. Its cool.
GBC_ make me want to . But honestly quit being such "sanctimonious annoying whining" people and maybe more people will come play with us.
Am I in that category of sanctimonious whiners? I mean, I don't think so, and don't try or want to be... (also, not trying to be all AW about this- just looking for insight today I guess)
I had to google it: 1. making a hypocritical show of religious devotion, piety, righteousness, etc.
But seriously I lurked for a long time and never got any kind of vibe like that from any of you guys. Maybe I don't read into people that much on here, but I don't see it.
I couldn't even read #1 and truly, I've been gone from the message board scene so long that I feel like it's "insider" speak and so I won't even try lol
2) I really don't think Margot ever has or will give a fuck. It's part of her appeal and, personally, why I liked her way back when people thought she was an AE friend of mine. She just says what she wants. I think she just got fed up by people being so damn judgmental and naggy that she said something about it.
Wait, someone GBCNMF'd? This must be part of the drunk driving thread that I stopped reading because I couldn't believe where it was going.
It sounds like Margot got fed up? I really liked her ' don't give one single fuck ' attitude AND her daily beer consumption. Damn.
I think there are people around here who are abnormally judgey, sanctimonious and just refuse to see another side of ANY topic once they're certain they're correct. Then they take said topic and proceed to beat others over the face with it. It's kind of old at this point.
Anywho, I don't think MF is out of touch with ' reality ' at all. Now I need to go finish the DD thread. I just don't see how a thread on something people know isn't cool ( drunk driving ) got everyone up in a tizzy. Off I go.
1. For the most part, yes. I have never posted on the Bump but know enough about the board from hearing about it. So from what I know, yes. Some people here act like they've never so much as farted in public, let alone broke any rule or done anything not by the book ever in their life. Which I wouldn't give a fuck if that's how you are, but it's the attitude and judgment that comes across toward anyone who isn't that way. Honestly on some topics it seems people have sticks shoved so far up their asses that I don't know how they move their neck to look down on the rest of us as much as they do.
I could deal with that if that was it and people at least had interesting discussions about things. But on any type of interesting thread there is no debate, and it's just this is how I feel, and now I'll just continue to beat the proverbially dead horse until you give up.
2. Who cares? Maybe because Margot posted here long enough that she felt that she made friends who would care. Maybe people don't want anyone wondering where they have been when they stop posting. She really didn't make that big of a statement until someone called her rude, so she came back.
I didn't plan on saying anything, but yeah I was done with this board too. There are a few people I think I could get along with IRL on here, but recently I just have been more annoyed than not on here and I just don't enjoy it. Maybe I would have been around randomly, but after this thread I'm pretty much just done. I wasn't going to make a post or do anything, but I saw this thread and you seem to want to know how people think of this board, so there's my opinion.

I agree with the bolded in number 1. Though I don't think the ones here who come off this way represent the lot of us. They just put people off because even a slight nonchalant post can be met with fucking absurd response. This happens on all boards but there is a special attitude about it here. It won't keep me from posting but obviously, I've cut back.
I blame it ( the farts, y'anno) on the kid. And will have another, younger, more believable child to blame it on this fall. That buys me a few more years.
Seeing as I'm probably lumped in with the sanctimonious folks, I might as well respond...
1)Do you think this board "corrisponds to real like like the bump corrisponds to raising babies?"
No clue - I've never been to the bump. I've heard the bump is a bit wacky and over the top, and certainly we do that with some issues, here.
2) Why, other than to make a scene and create drama, do people make huge sweeping GBC[whatever] statements? If a person wasn't trying to make a point, or cause a reaction, they could just... idk... leave, right?
I think there is an innate need in most people for recognition, and a GBC[whatever] feeds that need. So be it.
I think there are people around here who are abnormally judgey, sanctimonious and just refuse to see another side of ANY topic once they're certain they're correct. Then they take said topic and proceed to beat others over the face with it. It's kind of old at this point.
I agree with this. It's not the board as a whole but it happens often.
Like the repeated "Omg how could you tell everyone to lie to the cops?!" pearl clutching that happened in the DD post. Never once did Beachy say that everyone should just lie to the cops. Never once did she say she would lie to the cops. And even after she clarified her statement people wouldn't let it go.
And for someone to say basically that they hope she doesn't teach her students that DD is ok, I mean really? Do we really think she's in school teaching kids that DD is ok as long as they feel ok and that if they get pulled over to just lie to the cops? That was ridiculous.

I can't bold but that last part. Questioning someone's teaching habits after they clarified what they meant? That was ridiculous and over the top. It's fine to be judgy sometimes, we all do it but I find it to be over the top here and over the most ridiculous things.
1.) Reality can be very subjective, and it is debatable for every situation. Add that to the fact that this is an Internet message board where we dont share every detail of our lives... Yes it can seem that a lot of us are out of touch to someone who lives differently.
2.) I am sad that Margot is gone, but she has been heading that way for a while. This was an easy out for her. And at least she didn't start her own "GBCMN" thread to call more attention. I like her though and I am sad that it came to this.
ETA: I didn't read all of that DD thread so this is my somewhat uneducated opinion.
I just think its interesting that people act like somehow it's unique to our board (judginess, over zealousness, inability to see another view point, etc). I could point out any number of posters on the other boards like this. I think one of the issues of being a smaller board is that there are less people so strong opinions leaning one way or the other seem more prevalent because there are less opinions overall. This is also why I think we have more issues with board implosions than other boards.
Ftr- I like Margot a lot and her fuck it attitude. I don't really care for GBC_ by anyone, but I still like her. And I'll visit her on ML. Unless I'm someone she dislikes the. She can ignore I guess.

I got mad about that too. It felt like a ridiculous, last minute attempt at a further attack. Does anyone really think she's doing that, because if so I really want to know and discuss their views with them.
I don't think the issues are unique to us, but I do feel like it happens more than it needs to.
Can I leave my formal apology here? I am a fresh out of the closet delurker and didn't mean to start shenanigans by that post. I feel bad guys. Sad panda...
I think criticizing someone's teaching habits is wrong. Like I said I wouldn't hate anyone for having a drink or 2 and driving and I probably wouldn't even judge them for it. I just don't do it and explained why I don't. I wasn't REALLY trying to push my views on to anyone else. I like the mix of people here. I don't think we're crazy psycho pilgrims with sticks up our butts or anything.

shenanigans liven up the board, and apparently some of those issues have been under the surface for a while... so no harm no foul, really. (for the record, I was drinking hard cider while posting on Sunday... so my  is cider not beer)
*raises hand* I'm the one that had the teaching comment. It's at the end of page two. Apparently that was a memorable comment...
It was in response to a post describing that she was a health teacher and "knew and taught all that" regarding the impact of alcohol on the body.
Yep, it was a low blow, but I'll stand by what I said. I sincerely hope that the school curriculum regarding alcohol indicates zero tolerance of D&D. It certainly did where I grew up. Then again, school curriculum regarding other important health topics is substantially different in most states than where I grew up, so a disappointment in this area wouldn't be wholly unexpected.
So, I guess that makes me a stick in the mud. Darn.

I don't for one second believe that you were questioning the "curriculum" and not me personally as a teacher. My saying that I know and have taught all that "stuff" was after the umpteenth redundant post stating the effects of alcohol on the body which I am well aware of. You chose to question my morality as a teacher because I said that I am fully okay with LEGAL ADULTS functioning in society as the laws state is okay. So yes, I think that was a fucked up comment you made no matter how you try to defend it.

SO MUCH this. This is where I can't believe people jumped to.
I got what you were saying, Beachy. I'm sorry someone went there.

Exactly what Beachy said. It was a low blow and had no place in the conversation. You attacked her morals and what she teaches. This kind of attitude is what people are talking about. Even your post on here about being "disappointed by the school curriculum being taught wouldn't surprise you" reeks of judginess.

There's a certain way of things on this and on every board on the internet. If it's not your cup of tea then by all means leave. When I see someone leave loudly I sometimes consider saying something, but then I get to wondering why they were being so loud about leaving then I go play WoW in lieu of responding.
Actually, speaking of WoW, guilds in WoW are very much the same. Some people leave quietly whilst others leave loudly. The only difference to me is how much respect I have for them afterward.
Edit: Speaking specifically of Margot and the Drinking and driving thread. I like that not everyone is always in agreement all the time. It makes things more interesting. What burns me is when people take offense to being misinterpreted and having to further explain their opinion. Or, worse yet, being offended when people don't agree with you. If you really feel comfortable with your beliefs and opinions then I don't get why having people disagree with you is such a problem....Unless you really don't believe yourself and secretly wish that others would justify your opinions for you.
