For those of you who read my intro post , it will come as no surprise that I'm not 100% happy with the follow up appt I had at the regular Gyn clinic with the same resident. While I truly like her & know she is doing the best she can, I am dealing with someone who has only had approximately 3 months of RE training during her residency. At my follow up, she noted that my AMH levels are low (due to my age) & my progesterone level indicated I may not have ovulated. I find that surprising since temping seems to back up the imminent ovulation that the CBEFM & OPKs are predicting each month. My hsg results were normal & while some of my husband's SA results weren't great, she said the fact that he has already fathered children makes me the one we need to worry about the most.
So, she offered me an rx for clomid and I took it. In fact, she gave me 3 - 1 for 50 mg with no refills, 1 for 100 mg with 2 refills, & 1 for 150 mg with 1 refill. The idea is to start with the lowest dosage & work up as needed. But there will be no monitoring & THAT is why I am very hesitant to take it. From what I gather, most REs do not recommend unmonitored clomid cycles - correct?
I could be wrong here, but I don't see how that is safe. I'm getting ready to start something similar to clomid, and I will be monitored monthly by my OBGYN. In fact I won't start a new cycle until we are sure the previous cycle has failed. I'll get monthly pregnancy tests at the office. Granted I'm doing meds and IUI, but still I can't imagine being on a med like clomid without any sort of monitoring by the prescribing doctor.
I'd get a hold of the your doctor or one of her nurses and find out more info. Or find a new doctor.
This sounds super scary! I'd get a new dr ASAP. 1. It sounds weird that she would write a RX with that many doses ahead of time. My dr is more "take it one cycle at a time". 2. You NEED to be monitored. Clomid is no joke. I go in on day 14 or 15 and get an ultrasound. They check my lining and then look at both ovaries to see if I have a good follicle coming. If I do then I also get an HCG trigger shot to help my chances. If not, then I knew that I pry wouldn't have O'd and I would need provera since my period wouldn't come. I would never just take it. I did 2 cycles of 50 mg - the first I O'd, second nothing. Then I upped to 100 mg and had nothing that cycle. The higher the dose the worst the side affects - hot flashes like a mofo, headaches, etc. My dr also said the higher the dose then it starts to thin out your lining. So 100 was the highest she wanted to go since it wasn't working good for me.

Please do not take unmonitored Clomid. The risk to you is way too high. There are a couple of girls I know of over on TN who took it unmonitored and ended up with high order multiples. There is also a blogger I used to read who ended up with quads because her gyn prescribed Clomid and didn't offer monitoring. You can also end up further hurting your fertility if you create cysts during the cycle that you don't know are there.
I would seek a new doctor. Assuming that your DH isn't the problem because he has fathered children before seems like a red flag to me. Men can develop fertility issues later in life just like women, he could have also had some sort of infection or blockage that caused issues after having his previous children. If you can, find an RE in your area. If there is no one else to go to, request that she monitor you on the Clomid. Explain to her that you are worried about both cysts and the possibility of multiples. If she is even sort of with it she will be okay with that.

Ditto what DISCO said. Don't do it. Not only could you end up with high order multiples, but you could end up with cysts too ( a common side effect). I took Clomid and Femara for a few rounds and was monitored with no major issues, however my cousin took Clomid and on her second round developed cysts and had to stop the drug ( only knew about cysts because she was being monitored). IT just seems too risky and I would get a second opinion.
