Hi! I'm an on and off lurker and decided to actually contribute. My husband and I have been saving up for a very long time for our first home. We live in Colorado and are building a semi-custom house on 2.5 acres. We have always rented until this point and have been rather frugal with furniture and decor, always waiting until the day when it was a more forever home that we were investing in. Our house is expected to be finished sometime in May.
i just wanted to post and say hi because I'm sure I will have many questions while we are finishing things up and i value everyone's opinion here. I would like to start planning furniture purchases and some room decor. Does anyone have a favorite blog or site to browse for ideas? So far I have found Houzz to be rather tiresome to browse by room unless I type in a specific search term.
Houzz gives me a headache...I love looking at gorgeous rooms, but I find it a bit tedious and kind of clunky to search through. There are too many repeats of photos within the search and I get tired of clicking through. I have better luck on google image searches. You have to be kind of specific for what you are looking for, but I have stumbled onto some interesting blogs and found some pretty cool stuff that way.
I avoid pinterest too. I feel like every time I find something that looks interesting I have to click through a zillion pins to find the original source. The format is too cluttered for my already cluttered brain.lol I feel like there is so much sameness in blogland, so I try to happen across blogs rather than follow anyone. Sometimes I would rather go old school and browse through magazines and their websites.

I'm glad to hear someone else has issues with Houzz too. I loved it initially when we were trying to decide what elements (mostly architectural or layout) were important to us, but now it is exhausting like you said. I will try google images...that's a good idea. I'll also stop by a bookstore and check out some magazines. Thanks for the advice!
Welcome!! I loved Pinterest when I was building my home. I started pinning for all the rooms a good year before the house was finished and I love that when I look on my boards now, how 90% of the things I pinned found its way into my home. I pinned color palettes, room layouts, mood boards...When I was planning my kitchen I was pinning tile and granite combos...island ideas...cabinet ideas... Lighting and fixtures so that I could see it all in one place to make sure that it would all be cohesive from room to room. There are also some things that I laugh about, like this pin pinterest.com/pin/189151253069040897/ Because I totally ended up buying a SS farmhouse sink.
Hi, we are in Colorado too and are in the process of remodeling our house from the ground up. I did find ideas on Houzz. Actually my dh was obsessed with it. We also watched the remodeling shows and got some ideas that were a little different and then googled them or looked for those specific things on Houzz or Pinterest. I find it challenging finding furniture I like here though. Congrats on your house. How nice to have 2.5 acres
Congratulations on the new house. I like to poke around on bhg.com, younghouselove.com, designsponge.com, offbeathome.com and realsimple.com for home decorating ideas. I will also check out hgtv.com and ehow.com for specific projects. Like houzz.com, you have to know what you are looking for in order to be able to find it on these two sites.
