So, what's happening in your part of the world this week? Are you readings anything related to: Pi Day, the Ides of March, St. Patrick's Day, or St. Joseph's Day?
QOTW: Your house is on fire and you only have time to save one book, which one volume do you grab?
I'm reading Raisins and Almonds, the next-in-series Phryne Fisher. It's very interesting and enlightening -- particularly as to the portrayal of Jews in Melbourne in the 20's.
QOTW: It's a seriously hard question for me to answer because I have two volumes: (1) my copy of Little Women, which has beautiful pastel and pen & ink illustrations by Tasha Tudor and (2) a copy of The Earth Rests Lightly, a book I have bought 4 times already for my younger brother because he keeps losing it. Both books were the first ones I packed when I evacuated for Katrina, but if I could only save one, I think it would be Little Women.
It's my cat's birthday -- the Ides of March seems appropriate for him when he's being a pest.
I'm reading a Maisie Dobbs mystery, A Lesson in Secrets. The previous book in the series was my favorite so far, so I'm excited for this one.
QOTW: I don't really have any books that couldn't be replaced. I'd probably grab our photo books, but even those could be recreated. (Will insurance pay for library books, I wonder?)
No change for me this week-- I've been a horrible reader, and even my listening wasn't really happening (I didn't have a way to listen to my audiobooks in the rental car). I'm back in business in my "new" car, though. So I'm still reading A Feast for Crows and listening to Sea Swept.
QOTW: Maybe my Anne of Green Gables; no other copy could ever replace that one in my heart.

As a circulation librarian, I'll take this one. Most of us will be reasonable about it. As long as you can provide some kind of documentation that you actually had a house fire and aren't making the whole thing up, most librarians would write off a reasonable amount.
Now if you have 30 books out or something, they might want you to take it up with insurance. And there are always a few librarians out there who would be jerks about it.
Most of us are also willing to waive overdue fines that are the result of a serious accident or illness if you can back it up with some kind of documentation.
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Steivfaver(sp?). I like it. I'm about 75% done.
QOTW: Duh! My kindle! Haha, everything else is basically replaceable. I mean, so is the kindle. I guess insurance would pay for it, but I would be the most sad about its demise. I do have a few autographed books, though. LA Noir by John Buntin and Shoeless Joe by WP Kinsella.

I am almost done with a collection of stories by Eudora Welty. Some are really good, but some I find myself skimming through with no retention at all.
I don't really have any books that I couldn't replace, but I think I am going to cheat and say the collection of American Girl books under my bed. I have all of the books that existed by the time I was about 10/12. I have grand intentions of making any potential daughter read them and using the actual doll as a reward for reading the books/learning the history. It seems like it would be more meaningful than just getting the doll for a birthday. Of course, potential DD could just want whatever the modern girl doll of the year is. Would it make me a bad mom if I only let her get one if it was historical? Haha
QOTW: I don't really have any books that are irreplaceable. I keep hard copies of all our pictures in albums though so I'd probably be worried about them.

I'm reading The Drawing of the Three. It's the 2nd book in the Dark Tower series by Stephen King.
QOTW: I don't really have any books that are irreplaceable although I would be extremely sad if my Harry Potter books were lost. I'd care mostly about my Nook since the majority of my books are on it.
I am reading The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult, and now can't sleep because It is haunting and disturbing and so very sad. But good.
If I could take a collection of books, it would be my box of Babysitters Club books. If just one, maybe Lady Audley's Secret. I did my undergrad thesis on it and it has all my notes and ideas written in it.
