So we're on week seven of gimpy ankle and I'm still not better.
Bruising is gone, but it still swells up a lot every day, especially if I do a lot of standing. I don't have full range of motion and it hurts to rotate or flex my ankle in any direction. I've been doing my daily PT stretches but haven't advanced to the strengthening exercises since it says to only move on if you can do them without pain. I also still have numbness all around the top of my foot and ankle and soreness from toes to calf.
My diagnoses was "level three ankle sprain" which means a tear of the ligament. I got an x-ray (no fractures thank goodness) but not an MRI.
I was supposed to go back to my regular doc for a follow-up appt next week, but Greg thinks I should go to an orthopaedist instead because it's taking so long. If it was a complete tear of the ligament, I would need surgery.
Would you go back to the regular doctor (general practitioner) or just go straight to a specialist?
Yeah I would also go with the specialist. We went through a bunch of nonesense with H's leg because the GP didn't know what he was looking at, and said it was "just a sprain". (His ACL, MCL, and meniscious were all torn.) The specialist has a better idea of what they are looking at/for. I am sorry to hear that it is still causing you pain.

Another vote for the specialist. Sorry, GLW! I just think you might as well go straight to an orthopaedist, rather than spending more time with the GP.
I'm on hold with my insurance company now... I need a referral to see the specialist and I don't want to have to go back to my dr. for a second time in order to get one. Blah.
Thanks everyone; I have to call my doctor tomorrow and ask for a referral (insurance co. said there's a 50/50 chance they'll give it without seeing me again). There's an orthopaedist in the same building so with luck I'll get in there without a repeat visit to my GP.
